I think it's good that they halted Bran's story for next season, but given that they have confirmed flashbacks for next season I wonder what the vehicle will be if it isn't Bran?

Yeah I read that. It makes sense. They'll just have to recast Bran because he'll be 30 by season 6

While reading TWOIAF, I feel like my crackpot juices are flowing again.
Conventional: Ok, so I was going through the first part of the Targaryen bloodlines last night and something stuck out to me that I had previously forgotten. The Velaryons on Driftmark are from a lesser Valyrian bloodline and are closely allied with the Targs going back to Aegon I. With Aurane Waters, the Bastard of Driftmark, now essentially an admiral of a fleet of ships; is it possible that he is pulling on some of his Valyrian roots and making his way to Dany as well? I just have this feeling that GRRM wasn't just including all this House Velaryon business for history sake. If dragonriders are going to play such a huge role in the TWOW and ADOS then I think that an old Valryian house has a good chance of being able to be of service.
Crackpot: I am also highly curious about this Corsair King that is set up in the Basilisk Isles. He just so happens to set up shop right around the time of this turmoil in Westeros. He is mentioned trying to buy some Unsullied before Dany takes them all. Then he is mentioned raiding Tall Trees Town in the Summer Isles, which is South of Westeros. The Basilisk Isles are a pretty good jaunt from Westeros but they are conveniently close to Valyria, now if only someone prominent had gone missing there...... Gerion Lannister is the Corsair King. He has made a life of pirating and making dangerous trips to the Smoking Sea in search of Valyrian artifacts. He has found secret knowledge in his travels and is now fully aware of what is coming in Westeros. He will meet up with Dany and Tyrion and give his dear nephew the reclaimed Valyrian steel sword Brightroar so that he can help protect the realm from the Others.

Like all of this. Also gives us a Lannister to be Lord of Casterly Rock.

Don't see Tyrion wielding a sword, but all the Valyrian Steel is needed to fight the Others.

Apart from the few theories that we can all agree are likely true, this is about the only crackpot one that I actually like.

You're right that would be a waste. Maybe he gives it to Jamie?

I do see Tyrion getting Brightroar in the next novel. The Doom of Valyria I think is something that I think will be revealed by the end of the novels. Plus it just seems suspicious to me that part of the peninsula collapsed, which makes it a perfect gap if Dany wanted to sneak past any fleet that is likely coming her way.

This. I don't think there is any way we see her go home without first crossing Valyria. "To go forward, you must go back..." could easily refer to returning to the home of her ancestors. Hard to ignore what you want out of the prophecies and what they are really saying. Gerion and Valyria were 2 things I wanted to come across before finishing the series.

Would like this. Mainly because I hope to see him and Tyrion reunited at some point. Also cool to see new Jaime turn away a stolen Valyrian to be given his ancestral sword.
Went back to the start of this monster because I suspected my first post in this thread was about Gerion and Brightroar. Of course I got stuck reading all of the great posts from way back, but my favorite goes to BluegrassBelle

So great. This is my all-time favorite thread on TD.

What is everyone's impressions of the world of ice and fire?

Ironically I was going to start the thread but Cotton beat me to it. All spawned from a good ol' discussion of Theon's chapter and who the Hooded Man is. Crazy.

Illustrations are awesome. Text is basically hardcore nerd world-building that GURM OK'ed. Basically filler to sate the masses until Winds of Benjen, still bought it and DGAF.
