Auyushu, I'm working on Blade Itself right now. It's fricking awesome. Glokta is hilarious

Yeah, Glokta is awesome, as is Ninefingers. If you are loving the Blade Itself, you are really going to enjoy the next two and the three stand alone books. The Blade Itself is the worst book he's written to me, though it's still very good.

But I figured those books would be right up your alley.

Have you read "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss?

I'm about to start it and have heard good things.

The only thing that really bugs me about his writing is the

"Argh," Logen grunted
"Ow," said Logen.
"Gah!" squawked Logen

Everyone's heard of that series. It's very popular.

Personally, I love it. It's a divisive series though, in that it's very meandering, non-traditional, etc. I like it.

Rothfuss is solid, but he's not really similar to Martin except in the fact that he takes equally as damn long to get books written. He's more of a traditional fantasy writer. I enjoyed The Name of the Wind much more than his followup novel, which took him 5 years to write. His prose is superb, but his story is only decent to me.

The only standout thing about Rothfuss for me is the fact the story is told from the viewpoint of an unreliable narrator, which makes it a fair bit more interesting.

Anyone have any good realistic fiction book recommendations? I like fantasy for what it is but want to read something different.

If you made a drinking game out of how many times Logen says "You have to be realistic" you'd be in the hospital.

I'm a big fan of James Clavell. Shogun, Tai Pan, Noble House, King Rat are all superb novels.

Currently working through The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon and it's very good so far.

She finds a shield with his sigil in tarth

I noticed that on the boiled leather reread; didn't know anything about Dunk when I read AFFC the first time so it didn't mean anything. What's interesting isn't just that she saw a shield matching the description of Dunk's at Tarth, but she uses the same sigil for her own shield when she has it repainted in Duskendale.

Call me cheap, but I had a little tie to kill between two appointments and was near B&N, so I just went in, grabbed a copy of Rogues, and read The Rogue Prince. It's really short, finished in less than 40 minutes.

I may still buy the book, though. I'm a fan of Neil Gaiman and he has an interesting looking story in there as well, plus some others. It looks like a good book overall.
