Anybody feel like a dumbass after reading the books and then checking into any theories?

I'm right there with you
You can only imagine my head exploding when I got into in depth analysis like Jon Snow is Snow White, Sansa and the Hound is Beauty and the Beast, etc.
Those writings are simply amazing. Somebody took a lot of time to write all of those out

I read some of those essays from the ASOIAF forums. They are 100% spot on.

Yea, if the GNC is not true, I will be highly upset. That (and R+L=J) are the only two theories I've every actually thought were not crackpot.
Posted on 3/16/14 at 8:35 pm to FalseProphet
Yeah, I had already thought along the lines of the majority of the GNC, but it was great to read it all through. There were certainly many points I hadn't noted while reading.
I do think that Sansa ends up as the Lady of Winterfell- she is afterall, "stronger" there. And even though her wolf is taken away, she also has quite the rapport with old, abused dogs. ]

I always thought the snow castle scene emphasized that Sansa is Northern at heart/her nature. I also remember reading somewhere that she was born at the end of the last Winter, and that Arya was born during the Spring. .
I think Sansa will be in a position of power at the end of the series, regardless of what happens. I think she is one of the most likely characters to survive the series.

OH most definitely. There has been too much character development for her as a secondary character for her not to. I have an odd feeling that Arya won't survive though.

I think he has likely already written most of these little stories or at least has substantial outlines for them from the years. Or, alternatively, now that the series is almost definitely going to pass the books, he doesn't really care that much any more.

Go back a couple pages. We just covered this

I don't remember reading that.
Martin DGAF at this point/hasn't since this century started. I really hope TWoW is out in 2015 and that the show has 8 seasons; the reported 7 seasons is going to be too short/rushed IMO.

I assume this has been discussed but I just wanted to confirm. Sorry I'm too lazy to go back..
GRRM gives us some insight into his plans..
I think it's encouraging news!
As long as the show doesn't outrunt he books I'll be happy as a clam.
quote:
"The season that’s about to debut covers the second half of the third book. The third book [A Storm of Swords] was so long that it had to be split into two. But there are two more books beyond that, A Feast for Crowsand A Dance with Dragons. A Dance with Dragons is itself a book that’s as big as A Storm of Swords. So there’s potentially three more seasons there, between Feast and Dance, if they split into two the way they did [with Storms]. Now, Feast and Dance take place simultaneously. So you can’t do Feast and then Dance the way I did. You can combine them and do it chronologically. And it’s my hope that they’ll do it that way and then, long before they catch up with me, I’ll have published The Winds of Winter, which’ll give me another couple years. It might be tight on the last book, A Dream of Spring, as they juggernaut forward."

I've always said that the show is going to take the "Boiled Leather" approach to Feast and Dance. However, Martin is nuts to think that that will take up 2.5-3 seasons. No way in hell. They're going into ADWD with Dany and Bran, and we're just getting started on Theon/Reek's ADWD story which started in S3. Feast will be somewhat covered this season too.
If I had to guess, David and Dan want to wrap up Feast and Dance by the end of Season 5. It would make sense for Seasons 6 and 7 to be TWoW and ADoS, and hopefully if they do an 8th season, they could give both of TWoW and ADoS roughly 15 episodes each. 8 is the 'just right' number IMO. 7 seasons is too rushed, and 9 will be too long, assuming that D&D cut out and somewhat abbreviate/shorten the Iron Islands, Dorne, Quentyn stories, and I'm inclined to believe that Quentyn may be cut out entirely.
Also, I'd hope Martin realizes that the show physically can't have 9-10 seasons. The actors are getting older as well. Maisie and Isaac especially, and you don't want Emilia and Kit to be in their mid 30s when the series ends, which is why I kind of understand D&D wanting to finish it in 7 seasons.

Anybody think we will get a detailed visit to Casterly Rock anytime soon? Along with Valyria, it's the only places I am really wanting to read in intensive detail. I can't even crackpot a theory for them to return to Valyria, but a trip to the Rock would be cool.
Posted on 3/17/14 at 4:23 pm to Mr. Wayne
I'm curious to read about the Rock, as well. I loved the backstory on how the Lannisters stole it from the Casterly's but I want to see just how rich a place it is....

Is there some sort of theory that Starks born during winter are more susceptible to long life? What is this significance.

Apparently GRRM has been working on this story for another anthology that will coincide with TP&TQ.
“The Rogue Prince, or, the King’s Brother,” will tell the story of the years leading up to the calamitious events of “The Princess and the Queen” during the reign of King Viserys I Targaryen, with particular attention to the role played by the king’s brother, Prince Daemon, a rogue if there ever was one"

Yea we just discussed this too about 4 pages back.
Here's GRRM's interview with Vanity Fair. May ease some minds about the show passing the books

What difference does it make how old the kids are? They aren't kids now so being a little older really doesn't matter IMO.
I think if they catch GRRM then he won't give them all the details so they won't know how to end it. I'm not gonna worry about until they absolutely pass him. I don't think he's screwing off waiting on them to pass up his entire life works so they can write the end
