I think the cosmere is too 'video gamey' to translate well to television .

Could be wrong but i just can't see it

If everything works out, we could be talking about Stormlight on the same level as Game of Thrones.

Stormlight is one of the most overrated series in modern history. Half the story is them carrying that damn bridge everywhere which got repetitive very quickly. Last book was a flop too

It already is. On twitter you have people absolutely melting when anyone suggests an even vaguely white actor for any role. One dude was even campaigning for "actors of color" for Szeth, the literally only overtly caucasian character.

Its going to be totally nuts when someone like Shallan is straight up white.

And on the flipside when Ham is cast as a black woman people are going to freak

Rings of Power had to walk so that Stormlight could run.

I guess I need to finish Mistborn at least. I've only read the first one so far. I don't know about getting in to th whole Cosmere. Those other books are long.

Sanderson is going to have stronger control in this deal than any writer before him where their content was adapted to TV/Movie (GRRM, Rowling, etc).

If a certain person is cast for a character it's almost certainly going to be because he wants it that way. Are people really going to rail against his supported casting if he as the creator wanted it?

I really just want casting to reflect the source material (or historical reality if set in historical setting). It’s not too much to ask and it’s always appreciated by fans. So I don’t want a black woman as a Viking chief but nor do I want Christian Bale as Moses.

remember this being said about wheel of time too lol

I really tried to watch this but I couldn't even make it halfway through an episode. I tried skipping forward to later episodes but it was such an abomination that I couldn't even hatewatch. It's hard to believe anyone involved with the show ever read the books.

Saying Sanderson will have an unprecedented level of control.

Normally I would scoff because they will try to wear him down, but he doesn’t seem like he would soil his small clothes like the glutton.

I’m sure they’ll screw it up. I mean, we just got black Snape for no good reason. Hollywood can’t he’ll themselves. Wheel of Tine was ruined before it even began due to casting. At this point it oughta be pretty understandable why we’re nervous.

If BS isn’t given control, then every nation will have the demographics of modern New York City.

Cavill would make a good Dalinar if he was a little more Asian looking

Cavill would be several characters. He could be the Lord Ruler or Kelsier in Mistborn. Stormlight is harder. One of the Heralds maybe.

My son is named after a character in the series so i HAD to watch it. Complete garbage. If you were deliberately trying to ruin a series, I am not sure you'd do anything different than what those losers did.

Kinda how?

the world is already extremely multi-ethnic. There are all races represented in Mistborn and most of the main characters of Stormlight are not white

Wheel of Time and Middle earth also had diverse peoples in the source material but that wasn’t good enough for modern Hollywood. Oh, they can screw this up.

I don’t care whether or not the characters are white. That’s not what upsets people about diversity checkbox casting. What upsets people are the race swaps that deviate from the source material. So if all Alethi are described as looking like Mongolians or dark tanned Asians, then that’s how they should look on screen. And how would they screw that up? By injecting a bunch of actors that don’t look like dark skinned Asians.

Also, they inject diversity where it doesn’t make sense. Easy example is Emonds Field in WOT. A tiny hamlet would never have the diversity of modern London. Or how in the Witcher every kingdom had the exact same hyper diverse demographics which made every kingdom look the same. Makes no sense and detracts from the world building.

You're probably going to be disappointed to some degree, because Stormlight races don't actually correspond with Earth races, and its going to be quite hard to find a bunch of good tall mongolian actors that speak english well, wouldn't you say?

Relative consistency for the Alethi and other races is obviously ideal.

This is not like other series. WOT was idiotic because you had this isolated villages and you made it look like the United Nations instead of ethnically consistent. Among many other things.

But Sanderson's series really aren't like that. Vin's race for instance is a little vague. Kelsier's is not.

Wax and Wayne would not be 100% white as they have at least some Terris blood.

Agreed, but I’m so jaded by the garbage I keep seeing. I mean, just when we start hoping for common sense again, we get black fricking Snape.
