I just finished Recursion last night and loved it. Pines and Dark Matter were awesome also.

Never heard of him or his books. What’s interesting about him and his writing?

Not a dig either, I’m genuinely curious.

He is very good with those books. They have an interesting concept/technology, and the stories play out creatively. The new one Update is really good too. He also has some more serial killers books that are quite good but VERY different and dark. He also co-authored a book called Draculas that is hilarious and a great read. Talented guy.

I've read Upgrade, Recursion, Dark Matter and the Wayward Pines trilogy. I've liked them all

Dark Matter is going to be a series on Apple TV

Y’all have intrigued me. I shall take a gander at some of his stuff.

Any order you would recommend starting?

I read Recursion first and had my mind completely fricked.

Then I read Dark Matter and had my mind fricked again.

Basically, I don't think it matters what order you read them, but lube your brain up because Blakey's going in raw.

Read and really liked Dark Matter. Not sure how to describe it. Maybe sci-fi action murder mystery type.

Well, firstly, he is really good at riffing on "Time" as a theme. Really crafty at iterating cool ideas/scenarios based on Time.

But I would say the writing itself is truly compelling. Recursion touches on very deep themes, and I found his prose on the topic beautiful.

Personally, I think it's good to start with the Wayward Pines series. Then, read them in order after that.

He also plays around with tense. Recursion was in 1st person, present, which I always appreciate.

He’s built a dedicated fan base pretty quickly. Update was the most anticipated book of the year for me. And it didn’t disappoint. He’s reminding me a LOT of Michael Crichton, who was sort of a genre-busting author too.

Hadn’t heard this. Stoked!

Just read the first Wayward Pines book. Really enjoyed it. I will check back in when I finish the series. Thanks for the hook up on this guy.

Picked up Dark Matter this weekend. I'm ~75 pages into it. I'm getting Matrix and 12 Monkeys vibes off of it so far.

Sort of. Speaks to his talent that we can't pigeonhole his books.

Finished the Wayward Pines trilogy in about 5 days, thanks to this thread. Enjoyed it a lot. Just picked up Desert Places and Recursion from the library. Looking forward to reading some of his other work.

Finished Dark Matter a few days ago. Good book. Didn't really blow my mind like I expected. The ending was kind of meh.

I too read Pines based on the recommendation in this thread. I found it derivative (what isn’t), but good. Looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.

Thanks for starting this thread. I didn’t know who Blake Crouch was, but read both Dark Matter and Recursion last week.

I’m on Upgrade now (75%) I think the other two are better, but still enjoying it.
