Looking for a book or short series for a road trip I'm taking next week. 48 hours total behind the wheel.

Little bit of background. I've never been a reader. Maybe have finished 3 in my life aside from the ones I've had to read for school.

Some help narrowing down.

im an outdoorsman. like the show game of thrones but didn't want to start the books because it was 200 something hours of reading. Florida native.

Just not even sure where to start looking.

you really need to use book words like.."Authors I like" "Genres I care for"

would really help..what you basically said was.."I need help with buying a new vehicle, I really like tires"

If you aren't set on fiction, Guns Germs and Steel got me through a cross-country move.

I have a bunch of different thoughts on good books but that's the only one where I've also experienced the audio version.

Don't have any "authors I like" because like I said, I'm not a reader and couldn't tell you anything about the couple I have read.

Genre: Outdoors books, sci fi? Something like game of thrones. Which was put in OP.

What do you like about GoT? The sex betrayal and quest for power ?

Or is it the world and magic and adventure?

Fun stories with good narration:

Ready Player One
Red Rising (1 of 3) - Awesome narrator!
Blood Song (1 of 3)
Any Dresden Files Book
The Martian

I've never heard any narration on Sanderson's books, but I've heard they are good. Mistborn and Stormlight are my favorites.

Stephen Hunter Books with Bob Lee Swagger. One of them, "I, Sniper", was the source material for the Shooter movie with Mark Wahlberg. I've never heard narration for these either, but they are quick, fun stories.

I'll take that suggestion. Trying more sci-fi lately, and it's one of the "classics" from what I understand. Good to know it has good narration.

Looking at
"A knight of the seven kingdoms"

And

"The world of ice and fire"

Having just watched the show and reading one of the books. Which of these books would be better? Or should I just stay away from them since I haven't read the other books?

I started listening to the Martian on my way to Destin on Friday. I read the book and watched the movie. I highly recommend the audiobook.

Look into the Jake Crosby series by Bobby Cole, also. It's a suspense series that intertwines hunting. 3 great books.

Agreed.

And Tim Gerard Reynolds is the shite. When I'm done with my ASOIAF re-listen I may just choose another book that he's the narrator for. He was that good.

Anything narrated by Stephen Pacey. He really gets into the characters. Everything I've listened to that he narrated for Joe Abercrombie is amazing and a pleasure to listen to!

Dawn of Wonder was pretty good for a "new" fantasy author. Pretty sure it's available on Kindle Unlimited if you have it. And Reynolds was as great as always.

Not to hijack but how does Kindle Unlimited compare to Audible? I do the two credit plan with Audible right now and I see KU is subscription based.

Are all of the books on Audible available with KU or only certain ones?

I'm only able to find time to do audiobooks right now so any other KU features would be wasted on me.

I wouldn't switch. I have audible as well and get much more use out of it. I got unlimited free (temporarily) when my wife bought a kindle. Selection is pretty limited, IMO. The Kingfountain series and the Bobiverse series have been good finds, but that's about it.
