The real king of Grimdark and by far my favorite author in today's fantasy game. Introducing The Devils (cover art in link below):

Holy work sometimes requires unholy deeds.
Brother Diaz has been summoned to the Sacred City, where he is certain a commendation and grand holy assignment awaits him. But his new flock is made up of unrepentant murderers, practitioners of ghastly magic, and outright monsters, and the mission he is tasked with will require bloody measures from them all in order to achieve its righteous ends.
Elves lurk at our borders and hunger for our flesh, while greedy princes care for nothing but their own ambitions and comfort. With a hellish journey before him, it's a good thing Brother Diaz has the devils on his side.

frick yes. The First Law trilogy is probably the best thing I've read in the last year or two. Finished Best Served Cold a couple of weeks ago and am starting on the Heroes soon. Looking forward to this.

I've liked everything Joe has put out. The Shattered Sea trilogy was solid.
The First Law universe is some of my favorite fantasy stuff.
I'm looking forward to this new book.
And that skull with the candle horns and crown for a jaw would make an excellent tattoo.
Its refreshing to have authors you can rely on to consistently produce enjoyable novels like Abercrombie and Sanderson, instead of people like Lynch and Martin.

Checked his blog a day before this was announced, thanks for posting because I had forgot to check back
He has passed up GRRM as my second favorite fantasy author ever after Tolkien. My favorite genre as well.
This one sounds fantastic. I feel like I read that this takes place on earth, it's not in the first law universe.

The Blade Itself did one hell of a job introducing the world and characters and it pays off later in the series. It’s a must read…pretty much everything in first law is

For the First Law universe, read in this order:
First Trilogy:
The Blade Itself
Before They Are Hanged
Last Argument of Kings
Stand Alone Books:
Best Served Cold
The Heroes
Red Country
Second Trilogy (Age of Madness):
A Little Hatred
The Trouble With Peace
The Wisdom of Crowds
He also has the Shattered Sea Trilogy which is a seperate universe from First Law:
Half a King
Half the World
Half a War

Is shattered sea more young adult?

I just read the first two books in the series and it is a little YA as the POV characters are that age and it deals with coming of age. It also has a lot of will they won't they teenage sexual tension stuff. But it's still Abercrombie and it's very well done with lots of violence and twists.

I guess it could be seen that way. But its not like Harry Potter or Percy Jackson, or what you would normally think of as Young Adult novels. They read like Abercrombie novels, with the violence toned down a little.

A local book store here, a nice bookstore actually, has all of Abercrombie in the YA section. The girl that worked there actually laughed when she was telling me where the books were.

Yall have convinced me. Picked up The Blade Itself today. Haven’t read fantasy in a couple years, it used to be all I read but I started broadening my horizons the last few years. Last fantasy i read was the first 3 books of wheel of time 2 years ago. It was ok, didn’t like it enough to want to continue though

Finished at right at a week. Fastest i've read a book in a long time. Going to pick up the rest of the series tomorrow, great stuff
