Is this an issue? I don't recall seeing a lot of people getting hurt on punts.

They've changed the kicking game for scoring. They've changed the kicking game for kickoffs. Now they are trying to change the kicking game for scrimmage kicks (in this case: punts). Next they'll be changing scrimmage kicks for scoring (FGs). Eventually they will get rid of the kicking game all together and it will no longer be football. I don't understand the statement about blocks being so bad on punts. I see more holding and blocks in the back but I haven't seen either one of those cause significant damage (maybe I'm missing something??) Kick Catch Interference where the kicking team gunner blows the receiver up as the ball gets there is probably the most heinous but even that has been minimized.

There is a point of no return. At some point, in the near future, this will no longer be football.

The pussification of what was once a great game continues. At some point, a contact sport has risk. The players are willing to take this risk in order to make millions of dollars. Risk/reward.

That's not how owners look at it. They look at players as investments and want to protect their investments.

Sucks because I was going to work with my son to make him an awesome punter so he could become a millionaire the easiest way in America.

You need to move him to Australia and start him playing rugby if you want him to become a punter. 56 FBS punters were trained at ProKick Australia.

The return game does suck in the NFL. No return TDs anymore, too many penalties for block in the back. Returning any kick has become too negative EV as a result.

How about, stop messing with the game? It is a violent, physical sport. You want to make it safer? Remove the pads and play flag football.

"Remove the pads and play flag football." That's called Rugby, which is an interesting sport, by the way, played by some big, strong men.
