John Reed-USA TODAY Sports
Multiple sources have reported that former LSU running back John Emery Jr. is withdrawing his name from the NCAA transfer portal and will return to the team next season for his sixth year with the Tigers.

Emery Jr. recently graduated from LSU.

The St. Rose, La. native was a true freshman on the 2019 National Championship team but missed his junior season in 2021 due to eligibility issues. Most recently, Emery Jr. suffered a season-ending injury against Florida during his fifth-year senior year in 2023.

He played in 37 games over the last five years and rushed for 1062 yards and 14 touchdowns.

There’s been some growing pains with him but honestly, he’s been the most talented back in our backfield for a couple of years and for some reason Kelly rather run the QB draw. I think if he had more opportunities he could show off those skills. Should get more opportunities with Nuss and maybe we can focus on winning games instead of individual awards

Darn I thought we got rid of him for good. He is always in trouble doesn't go to class. He is not smart and messes up plays. We have great running backs lets get rid of this guy. He never lived up to his billing. He has been given way too many chances, let's just move on like we do with other players. He is a bad penny.

That is what I remember too... right in front of our seats... just a total stank leg, that unfortunately cost him his leg. Come back dude and then be a Tiger for life.

Our RB depth was thin. It’s great that he has decided to stay.

When it is said that a guy is a man among boys it's usually hyperbole but in Emery's case it will be true. I hope the knee is solid

He has taken up a roster spot for the better part of a decade…it is time to get some productivity out of him. Glad he is staying for another year.

Do we have to? The 5 highlight plays in his career do not make up for the headaches.
