LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier spoke with reporters at the NFL Combine this week and revealed that his core injury happened just two days into fall camp, right before the 2025 season.

The injury limited Nussmeier all season and eventually sidelined him:

quote:

"It occurred in fall camp, day two of practice," Nussmeier explained. "How much did it affect me? I think it was pretty evident."

"I really wasn't able to throw the football. I had stabbing pain in my abdomen every time I tried to throw the football. We weren't able to figure out exactly what it was; it was frustrating. It wasn't LSU's fault or the doctors' fault. They did a great job of taking care of me."

"It was just a rare deal, we didn't figure out what it really was until like 2 months ago. I had about nine days to prepare for the Senior Bowl.

"I made a lot of progress over the last month. Feel much more like myself, which has been exciting."

As I admire someone that wanted play his senior season and be there for his team, how the frick did our leadership at the time not say "We're going to sit you out for these tune up games, so you're healthy for SEC play".

We didn’t have leadership

Because he had the best odds to win heisman prior to injury. You don’t win it if you don’t play. I’m sure that played a small part of it

bummer for the kid... clearly hobbled. offense would've been pretty sick if he were 100%.

Sooooo what the hell was it? We still don’t know. He just says they didn’t know but found out what it was 2 months ago. So what was it? Will we ever know?

The biggest takeaway from this is that BK is a POS liar. A blind man could see he was hurt, but BK chose to keep running him out there rather than getting him the help he needed to recover. It ultimately led to his firing. If Coach had sidelined Nuss until healthy, BK may have gotten a pass and another year

How in the hell with all of LSU's resources we couldn't find a solution for this and save the season?

Our leadership was more worried about cashing checks than winning games and putting these kids in a position to succeed.

Brian Kelly was one big POS. How Woodward thought it was a good idea to hire him should be a permanent stain on his career as an AD. Screw Woodward as well.

Positive in this whole thing. He will not be a Raider and probably not a Jet. Could be a Brown though.

A Ram would be an amazing spot for him. McVay as a coach. Sit behind Stafford who will probably retire in a year or two.

I don’t believe him.

Believe what you want, it was OBVIOUS he was injured. Any BLIND MAN could see that. Kelly just refused to sit him

You're HILARIOUS! Dude was a hesitant favorite before the season. He was hurt the whole season. Hes not going to go from a Heisman favorite to undrafted because of a bad season where he shouldn't have even played because he was injured

He's brittle

How so? He had 1 injury, and the HC REFUSED to sit him until he was healthy
