Sports Illustrated unveiled their SEC Power Rankings and biggest burning questions for each team in the conference heading into to the 2017 season this week.

LSU landed at No. 2 on the power rankings and SI was most concerned by the depth at running back behind Derrius Guice.

Under new (or newish) coach Ed Orgeron, LSU’s offense must improve, and even without Leonard Fournette, it should. On defense, coordinator Dave Aranda should have plenty of fresh talent to fill the voids left by graduations and departures, most notably Jamal Adams and Davon Godchaux.

What does LSU’s running backs depth look like?

Leonard Fournette played in just seven games last year, leaving his backup, Derrius Guice, to anchor the Tigers’ ground game. Guice ran for 1,387 yards, averaging 7.6 yards per carry, and scored 15 rushing touchdowns. He looks poised to be one of the best backs in the SEC, if not a Heisman Trophy candidate, but it’ll be important for LSU to field another power back.

Darrell Williams, a senior, has rushed for just 831 yards in three years in Baton Rouge, but this could be his season to shine as he moves into the No. 2 spot on the depth chart. Junior Nick Brossette should also get reps this spring and could be in line to contribute come fall.

Brosette only looks decent compared to Williams. Williams has devolved into barely serviceable to run out the clock back. One touch and the dude falls. I don't know if it's his weight gain or what but his balance is way off. I have a feeling someone will step up and be ready. Just don't know who right now.

If Brosette was going to shine, he'd have done it by now.

I was never big on Brosette but in his defense he did blow out a knee.

he's blew out a knee while sitting behind 2 Heisman candidates. I don't know if he'll ever do much, but there is plenty of reason why he hasn't shined yet.

Brossette will get passed in the RB pecking order. He won't even start as a senior next year. But people will keep pumping him up until he runs out of eligibility, as a less than mediocre back.

Hmmmmm i wonder who is #1 in Power rankings??? I have absolutely no clue. If they could ever keep Darrell Williams away from Popeye's, he would be a pretty good RB.

I wish Williams would cut some LBs. We need him to shine like he did as a freshman. He needs to get his arse in gear as he could be seeing lots of Pt.

I'll get slammed for this I'm sure, but our RB depth scares the crap out of me. After 5, I dont think any of the rest can carry the load. They are good for a spell here and there, but not every down type guys IMO

Williams and Brousette are decent backups, but agreed...if Guice gets injured our depth at RB becomes a concern

Why wouldn't we switch to running back by committee if Guice would go down? No reason we need one of them to be the every down back.

Not worried about depth at rb. A good o-line can make them shine and I think Brossette will surprise a lot of people. Williams also, in the proper formations with multiple shifts that Coach C. runs. All he got with Les and Cam was goal line and short yardage carries where everyone knew he was getting the ball. Not exactly a recipe for success. Give em a chance!

I hope David Ducre can flourish in the new "H-back" position.
