College Football Insider Brett McMurphy of WatchStadium.com is reporting that LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda could be a possible candidate for the vacant head coaching job at Utah State.

Utah State is looking for a replacement for Matt Wells who left for the Texas Tech head coaching job this week. Wells was making $900,000 as the Aggies head coach this year.

LSU gave Aranda a contract extension last January worth $2.5 million that will keep him on staff until 2021 after Texas A&M attempted to hire him away from Baton Rouge in the offseason. Aranda's contract does not have a penalty if he takes a college head coaching position.

Aranda was the defensive coordinator at Utah State in 2012 for one year before joining Wisconsin's staff from 2013-2015. He was hired to be LSU's defensive coordinator in 2016 by former head coach Les Miles and now hold the title of associate head coach along with DC/LB coach under Ed Orgeron.

Why would he go to utah state? I’d understand a 2nd tier program but not 4th tier.

Aranda will have his choice of jobs soon.

Utah State is in a nice town, and more importantly, in a center of lots of NW stepping stone jobs (Utah, Cal, Wash., etc.). He could take a position like this. Say no to Ogden pls

No way Utah State will pay Aranda 2.5 million. Aranda will either stay at LSU or accept a Power % job at well over 2.5.

He'd be selling himself short going to Utah State...

If he takes Ed and Steve with him, it might not be a bad thing

I can't imagine Aranda walking away from the money he's making here to be the head coach of some mid-major program. This does not concern me. When a major program comes calling, I'll have more concern. And he's always going to be on the radar for an NFL DC job.

Looks like Utah st already has someone in mind. Aranda will be here another year unless something bigger comes his way

LSU pays him double what Utah State would. I don't see this happening

Closer to triple, based on last HC salary.

Imagine Utah State with Klingsbury as OC and Aranda as head coach. Sadly at best we keep our DC for one more year.

Hate to break it to you. DA is no fan of the air raid offense. Air raids wear out defense. DA is the main reason Canada was fired.

Well, we know LSU is not going to give him another raise...

and they should not

Probably not Utah State, but it’s just a matter of time before he gone.

that may / may not be true. not everyone wants to be a HC, or is good at it. His salary slows that process down,

Name him head coach in waiting.

This is a wish list... not a potential candidate list. Aranda is not going to leave for Utah State.

I don't think he'll go. He can make 3 times as much for another year and wait for better jobs to open next year.
