Mississippi Planning Largest-Ever College Football Security Presence For LSU-Ole Miss

Mississippi officials are ramping up security in Oxford ahead of Saturday’s highly anticipated matchup between LSU and Ole Miss.

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety announced Wednesday that the Mississippi Highway Patrol will deploy its largest presence to date for a college football weekend, with approximately 65 to 70 troopers and Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division officers expected to be in the area.

Additional resources will include the department’s Special Operations Group, Air Operations and Mobile Command Center.

Enhanced traffic enforcement will begin as early as Thursday and continue through the conclusion of the weekend.

Mississippi officials are also coordinating with Louisiana State Police, with approximately 10 to 15 Louisiana officers expected to work alongside Mississippi law enforcement throughout the weekend.

“This weekend will bring a significant number of visitors to Oxford, and our priority is making sure everyone can enjoy the game and surrounding events safely,” Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell said.

Tindell added that officials are working closely with the University of Mississippi, the City of Oxford and Louisiana State Police to coordinate security, traffic management and public safety efforts.

Fans traveling to Oxford are being encouraged to allow extra travel time and prepare for significantly increased traffic throughout the weekend.

Kickoff between LSU and Ole Miss is set for Saturday in Oxford.
