LSU sophomore quarterback TJ Finley is entering his name into the NCAA transfer portal, according to multiple sources.

Finley, a former four-star prospect from Ponchatoula, Louisiana, was a signee in LSU's 2020 class.

Finley started in five games as a true freshman last season after starting quarterback Myles Brennan suffered a season-ending injury in Week 3. Finley went 2-3 in those games with wins against South Carolina and Arkansas and losses to Auburn, No. 5 Texas A&M, and No. 1 Alabama.

Fellow freshman quarterback Max Johnson replaced Finley as the starter for LSU's final two games of the season which were wins vs. No. 6 Florida and Ole Miss. Johnson took first-team snaps during spring practice and started as QB1 in the spring game back in April.

Johnson, along with Brennan will battle it out in fall camp to be the starter Week 1 vs. UCLA.

Finley may be better at receiver, edge rusher or tight end. Not so much for quarterback.

Jackson State with Sanders. He'll get his degree and upset 1 or 2 top 50 teams before he is done.

Don't blame him at all since it looks like the battle will be between MB and MJ, some team is going to be lucky to get him

I knew this was coming. Hate to see it. Great kid who found himself in a situation where opportunities just weren't there - despite incredible talent. This is worth following. Some lucky team is picking up a gold mine.

He seems like a great kid & he may make a great college QB in the right program with a good QB coach BUT I don’t get how you can say “Opportunities were there”? Finley was given 5 games as the starter & did some good things BUT it’s clear that Johnson & Brennan are much better QBs. If Max had started 5 games last season I think LSU wld have won the Auburn & A&M games. He’s got the tools to be a really good P5 QB but he’s raw & unfortunately his mobility just isn’t there. Most Colleges & a lot more NFL Teams now too, require mobility in the pocket to successfully run their offensive packages & like I said he’s very limited in that regard.

Good luck! Great arm, quick release, great practice player. If he can transfer to the real game what he does he practice, he will be a great get for someone.

He has the size and talent to make some team an excellent quarterback. He is third on the depth chart and is not likely to get meaningful playing time at LSU, so transferring is probably a good decision. Best of luck in the future and thanks for being a Tiger!

Yeah I am sure he will be fine at Southern, Jackson State, Southeastern, ULL, or such but TJ is not a championship SEC QB and never will be. Good luck to him but LSU needs to move on and so does TJ.

He will find his way and be good somewhere. He has what it takes, just got thrown into the fire a bit too soon I think. He has plenty of time to get it all figured out.

If ur insinuating Brennan leaving ur delusional man! Hes out in too much time & work at LSU to walk away from the backup position. He’s smart enough to know that even if Max wins the comp all it’ll take is a cpl bad games/decisions by Max & the “Play the backup Coach O” grumblings will get mighty loud & likely force a change. That’s just my opinion & I hope no matter which guy wins the QB1 battle that they’re not looking over their shoulder every time they make a mistake! All that’ll do is ensure mediocre play from whichever QB is the starter!

Im not surprised, but I do wish TJ the very best wherever he decides to go. I think he has a lot of talent and he was always very loyal to LSU, and I can appreciate that, but at the end of all this, he has to look after his own future.
