LSU has hired Alabama linebacker coach Kevin Steele to be the teams new defensive coordinator. Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

Steele comes to LSU from Alabama, where he spent the 2014 season coaching the Crimson Tide linebackers and the 2013 season as director of player personnel. A proven recruiter who helped Alabama sign the nation’s No. 1 class a year ago, Steele has held defensive coordinator positions in the SEC and ACC as well as serving as the head coach at Baylor for four years.

“This is a great hire for us,” Miles said. “Kevin has had a very successful coaching career, one that has seen him coach alongside some of the top coaches in the game. He won a national title with Tom Osborne at Nebraska, coached with Bobby Bowden at Florida State, and coached in the NFL with one of the great defensive coaches in Dom Capers.

“He has a great defensive mind and he’s an outstanding recruiter. He knows our players and our system and his knowledge of the SEC and the SEC Western Division makes him a great fit. We are very excited the Kevin will be joining our staff.”

I wonder what people who work with some of you uber critical people would say about your job performance, and if you're really a good hire or not.

gotta love the comments going back to CLE vs WVU, when over half clemson's roster was freshmen.... losing to WVU with Tavon Austin, Steadman Bailey, and Geno Smith, a top 5 offense..... but keep judging someone by one game....

Let's face it money or no amount of money made this job attractive to current DC's. The impression and direction of the program has actually made this a hard position to fill. Working with Miles and this low level offense obviously is going to put alot of strss on a d-coordiantor. It's a tough sell. Not the top job it was a few years back...

How is it we have more than the chance to hire Kirby Smart and end up with this? If we were really never interviewing Smart for the job then Les needs to say something and he needs to explain why all these DC he supposedly talked to didn't fit for him. He owes the fan base more than just a freaking standard canned press release. This is bullshite. All the accomplished DC's out there and we hire a position coach. I didn't realize our problem was recruiting. I don't give a damn how good of a recruiter he is. Hire an accomplished DC, move Haley out and get coach O. Recruiting and DC taken care of. This is an absolute joke that only Miles and Alleva can accomplish. This guy has absolutely nothing on his resume that indicates he can be a DC. But hey he knows the SEC West, whoo hoo.

He has head coaching experience. This might work out. We are going to need an interim head coach in the next couple years.

Time will tell...Let's not jump to conclusions so fast. He has been around. He has worked and hopefully learned with some elite coaches. I think the biggest focus now needs to be our quarterback play.
