Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports
Former LSU quarterback Justin McMillan has been reportedly blocked from transferring to SEC schools and any teams that are currently on the Tigers schedule for the next two years. Per The Advocate:
quote:

McMillan said he was informed Wednesday by an SEC school, which he would not disclose, that his recruitment had been halted because of the block.

McMillan said he "knew he was going to get blocked from the SEC West," but he thought he was under the impression he might play for other SEC schools.

McMillan’s transfer release document from LSU, obtained by The Advocate Wednesday, blocked McMillan from transferring to schools “in the SEC and those on (LSU’s) current schedule the next two years.”
McMillan graduated from LSU this summer making him eligible immediately with two seasons left to play.

Why not just block him from any school on the LSU schedule? Why a blanket block on SEC schools?

Because in theory that would still make it possible to play against him in the SEC champ game.

It's just a standard noncompete agreement. I have one with my employer too. If you're a federal employee you can't work for a contractor doing business with your agency for a set period. There are perfectly good reasons for this sort of thing. If noncompetes didn't exist, it would be perfectly okay for any school to recruit from other teams at any time.

The young man should be allowed to pick the school of his choice. This is not the way you treat someone who has graduated and done his best to compete. Coach O may very well regret some of the questionable moves he has made in the last few months.

I know your are just kidding. You can’t be serious that Coach O would allow someone who knows the playbook and line calls to play against our LSU Tigers in a game situation ! If you think it bad that Coach O blocked this move for any other reason than that , you have a lot to learn... P.S. I guess you think Coach Meyers block of our new QB with the same stipulation was a bad move also ....

All the damn cryin up in here. Wish him good fortune but there’s plenty of other schools to play at besides SEC.

My guess is kid is bitter, florida calls him up like the little bitches they are, and fills his head with lies about being a starter day 1. Or kid is just bitter and georgia knows it and is just playing on that emotion so they can use his knowledge.

Yet coaches can leave to go coach at a school in the same conference.

I've always thought this is chicken s**t of a school to do. He's already graduated so Lsu shouldn't be able to anyway. Just don't agree with it at all

Not sure I like this. Kid graduated. He should be able to go wherever. It’s not like he didn’t want to play here.

He graduated .... He should be able to go where he wants... He fulfilled his obligation to LSU.... Does Orgeron really think his new offense is that valuable and that somebody would sign this kid just to learn this offense?

This is whack. He graduated and should be able to do what he wants.

Wasn't there a fellow on here on the previous post screaming about how McMillan was gonna be in the SEC and he was still gonna be a Tiger (pointing to potentially an AU transfer? Or was that Lowell Narcisse?

How can Coach O get in front of the camera and say. "I would have transferred too, I don't blame them", then block him from going to schools that are interested in him. That's complete BS. Like the saying goes.... One man's trash, is another man's treasure!!!

so a player graduates and get blocked from certain schools. However, a coach who knows more intimate details about a program can up and go to any school of their choosing no restrictions. Must be nice have all this free labor and no players union to advocate on their behalf.

This 100%. My gut feeling is that is one of the first rules that go away when we start to see players challenge their rights.

Couldn't start here so LSU blocks his transfer. I'm sorry, but I want LSU to be above all this. Your own coaches don't think he's good enough, who the eff cares if he goes to an sec east school?

No problem with this.

Duh. Besides, where would he even start? And wouldn’t it be smarter for him to go somewhere like La Tech or a conference with a little less competition?

What some of you don't get is that if a player is allowed to just freely transfer with no restrictions at all then there is no way to prevent continual recruiting of players after they have signed with a school. In fact have axsigning day at all if a player has continuous freedom to just pick up and leave to go elsewhere? You have a school like Bama cherry picking every team in the SEC and they would do it.

He graduated, he should be free to go wherever.

Yes, he graduated, on LSU's dime. LSU has invested thousands of dollars into McMillan and reserves the right to restrict where he goes.
