There has been much talk this week about LSU running back Leonard Fournette and whether or not he should sit out his junior year to avoid risking an injury before the 2017 NFL Draft.

Here is what Mike Florio with NBC Sports had to say:
quote:

Fournette is ready to play in the NFL, but he can’t play in the NFL until 2017. Unless the rule changes before April (it won’t), Fournette can’t get in to the NFL before 2017. So if he’s ready to play in the NFL and if he has maxed out his draft value, why should he continue to assume the risk of injury while playing for compensation that doesn’t come close to matching Fournette’s value?
Fournette posted the following message on Twitter Tuesday night to silence the conversation:

LSU Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette also shared his opinion on the NBC article via Twitter Wednesday morning:

Mike Florio should go back to plagiarism, it's how he got the gig he has. It is quite ridiculous that these NFL mouthpieces will say anything to protect their jobs.

All he needs to do is get an insurance policy, which shouldn't be that hard to do.

They were talking about this on ESPN 1420 yesterday saying that players will eventually do this. Tried calling in to say basically the media would be at fault for putting that idea in their heads. Most of these guys just love playing football and competing. Fournette's response was perfect and I'm glad he's putting it to rest now.

There should be an exceptional player rule that would have to meet certain criteria. I love having him 3 and who knows he may stay four like the Mannings did but players like this should have the option. IMO

Followed LF since his soph year of HS. He is a rare breed, great kid!!! Les Miles is accused of a lot but one thing he is not is a coach that puts winning ahead of the safety and proper development of his players.

Why hurry up and join the NFL? Talk to some former players who say the best times of their lives were at LSfreakinU, not playing for the NoFunLeague.

Shaq has said in interviews that if he had a time machine he would go back to LSU between 1989-1992. (Best time of his life - before he hAd any real $).

"I will never jump ship... I'm drowning with my brothers"

Class act and loyalty to his team! If he served in the military with me, I would sleep better knowing a brother-in-arms like him has my back.
