After the first day of practice on Saturday, LSU tweeted out a picture of wide receiver Jonathan Giles in action with the caption that said: "Playmakers wear 7 at LSU."

Former LSU stars Leonard Fournette and Patrick Peterson, who both wore No. 7 during their time in Baton Rouge saw the tweet and responded with this:

This is O=ball. It's just a cheap "get" tool now. I was going to say "recruiting tool" but he's a transfer.

7 should be retired for Bert Jones.

I am old enough to have watched Bert Jones play and respect him as much as anyone but I prefer the current use of the number 7 as an honor at LSU. Bert Jones had a tremendous LSU career and in large part is responsible for the number 7 having the meaning it does at LSU. To retire tge number 7 in Bert Jones' name at this point would be a slap in the face to Fournette and Peterson. They did the right thing in letting him know that wearing the number 7 at LSU is an honor that he has to uphold.

Great but there can be no excuses wearing that number. He has to be dominant. I’m still not sure how I feel about a transfer wearing 7 just because he asked for it.

Giles needs to understand he has to uphold the honor by his actions both on and off the field.

These comments are a joke. LSU fans should be so happy that the coaches have this much respect and confidence in this young man. Word on the street is that he earned and deserves #7. Congrats Mr. Giles, may you bring respect and glory to the #7 as those did before you!

There is nothing wrong with LSU fans expressing their opinion regarding an honored number in LSU Football history.

Everything I've heard since Burrow arrived in town is that if he has a great season he saves Coach O's job. We win we attract the big recruits. Our Big Boy status restored. I think if Burrow does what he's suppose to. He should have been considered for the #7.

Well name a football program that doesn't rely on top players to build their program and preserve a coaches job? Surprise, surprise recruiting matters.

Top teams relying on top players is normal. Relying on transfers is not.

Solo Cam, Orgeron did what he had to do to boost the situation he inherited. If that meant getting some transfer talent to LSU then so be it. The transfers CHOSE TO BE AT LSU. They had other options and they are LSU players now. I support them fully.

I totally agree but maybe this was o s way of instilling confidence in him and saying we need u to step up this year Greedy would have looked sick in #7

Said it then and I’ll say it now- Greedy should have 7
