Lane Kiffin Says LSU Will ‘Absolutely’ Follow SEC Rules, Awaits Thursday’s Court Ruling

The ongoing battle between the SEC and programs attempting to add former NFL players could gain some much-needed clarity later this week.

LSU head coach Lane Kiffin told ESPN's Heather Dinich that the Tigers are waiting on Thursday's court ruling before determining how they will proceed with players attempting to return to college after spending time in the NFL.

When asked if LSU would follow the SEC's eligibility rules if the current court order is reversed, Kiffin responded emphatically, "absolutely."

"All we're waiting for is clarity this week from the SEC, which they can't give final clarity until Thursday's ruling," Kiffin told ESPN. "We are waiting for final clearance and guidelines from the SEC. ... I have been in communication daily with the SEC to make sure we are complying with the SEC rules."

The SEC is currently complying with a temporary restraining order that prevents the conference and commissioner Greg Sankey from punishing schools for rostering certain players who signed NFL contracts before attempting to return to college. However, the league plans to challenge that order during a hearing Thursday morning.

The situation has significant implications for LSU, which has pursued multiple players seeking an additional year of eligibility after NFL stints, including Dae'Quan Wright, Zxavian Harris and Jack Pyburn.

For now, Kiffin maintains LSU is operating within the rules and will follow whatever guidelines are in place once the court provides further direction Thursday.

All the people saying "just move on, too many distractions" are the same people who wanted to move on from pursuing Jordan Seaton because he didn't sign as soon as they wanted him to.

Just move on distractions 2 days before kickoff is not what we need for coaches and players. We already have a stout roster, put it in the closet. Glad LK is following the rules. If the SEC can they will crucify LSU if they have a chance to do so.

Except for the ncaa putting this who thing in motion with their ill-timed eligibility change after this one class was out of eligibility. Whole thing could have been avoided.

For everyone after this year, that's already the case. For this year, and only this year, these players were told they had extra eligibility after the fact. They should absolutely be able to come back. This whole thing could have easily been avoided with the release and stipulations of the 5 for 5, had it not been handled by idiots.
