Lane Kiffin Reveals LSU's Priorities During The Bye Week Before Alabama
LSU head coach Lane Kiffin discussed the team's bye-week plans during his Sunday Zoom press conference following the Tigers' 38-17 road win over Auburn.
Self-Scouting And Team Improvements
Kiffin said LSU will use the extra week to evaluate personnel, make adjustments, and address concerns.
"Well, really for us, especially as a first-year staff, and I know it sounds crazy, not having a lot of background with guys, maybe even looking at guys at different positions or roles, especially on special teams.
"And then, you know, improving some areas as we self-scout over the next day, things that we think we need to improve on.
"We really focused a lot on red zone starting two weeks ago, and that's really paid off for us the last two weeks. I think nine of nine in the red zone, seven touchdowns.
"Just looking at areas. One would be turnover margin. Our offense and defensive statistics are really, really good. We lead the SEC in both offense and defense and top ten nationally in both. But the one glaring thing is turnover margin."
Recruiting During The Bye Week
Kiffin said LSU will send some assistant coaches out to recruit during the bye week, but emphasized that the current roster remains the staff's top priority.
"Yeah, we'll get some assistants out during the week, you know, and then I think they have meetings scheduled later in the week.
"Our number one priority will always be our own team. Right or wrong, that's how we've always been.
"I even tell parents that and kids in recruiting. There'll be some other teams that in recruiting call you more, and the head coach will FaceTime you every night and all that, and then when you're there, guess what? They're doing that to the next kids, you know, for your four years there.
"So our focus always is on our current players, our current team, not prospective ones. But we'll utilize some time on recruiting this week."
LSU (6-2) returns to action against Alabama on November 7. Kickoff from Tiger Stadium is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC.
