LSU head coach Lane Kiffin isn't a fan of a potential SEC rule change involving the transfer portal.

According to a Yahoo Sports report, the conference is considering reviving a policy that would require players transferring between SEC schools to sit out one year before becoming eligible to play.

During his radio show Thursday night, Kiffin strongly opposed the idea.

Kiffin said he "can't imagine a worse decision to make" and added that "other conferences would celebrate that rule" because players would simply transfer outside the SEC, according to Jon Blau.

"We'd just be handing away a lot of players every year and limiting them that they can't go to other SEC schools they grew up fans of," Kiffin added.

The SEC previously eliminated its intraconference transfer restriction in 2021, allowing players to move between conference schools without sitting out a season.

No decision has been announced on whether the conference will reinstate the rule.

This rule is so short sighted that the idea must have come from politicians.

He’s right, you know. I’m not a huge fan of today’s portal world but you have to take advantage of the rules because everyone else surely will. Why handcuff SEC teams.

Funny thing is that if the SEC does it, it can happen. If the major conferences all agree to do it, it is collusion and open to lawsuit.
