LSU announced the hire of Greg McMahon on Friday who will serve as the Tigers new special team coordinator.

The longtime New Orleans Saints special team coordinator joined LSU's staff last season as a special team analyst. Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

The addition of McMahon gives the LSU coaching staff a combined 65 years of NFL experience.

“Coach McMahon brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the area of special teams to our staff,” Orgeron said. “He’s had success at the highest level of football, helping the Saints win a Super Bowl, and I know that with Greg working daily with our special teams, we will show marked improvement.”

McMahon spent the 2017 season as analyst for the Tigers.

“It’s an honor to work at LSU and it’s an honor to be part of Coach Orgeron’s staff,” McMahon said. “This is one of the top programs in the country and I can’t wait to get started.”

This guy was fired by Sean Payton cause he did so bad his last few years there. Why is he an excellent hire. It's not what he did in the past, it's what can you do for me now. If we about the past then why not keep coach miles ?

I am becoming convinced that many of you object to Orgeron because he is a Cajun. Kinda becoming obvious as your type is critical no matter what he does. Your type bitched when you were convinced Aranda was leaving because of Orgeron. Then when Aranda turned down A&M stayed you give no credit to Orgeron or Aleva for doing what they had to do to keep him. You don't want to be pleased. So, you aren't. Pathetic.

Just for the record know that I am not that old..... Some of you young punks need to get up punch in the throat. A woman that much NFL tenure can surely help LSU. Maybe if we hired some jerk off pretty boy Kliff Kingsbury look alike you idiots would be happy

Crap : ( I like the ensminger hire much better than this guy. I like the idea of ensminger 100 times better than this guy. He was fired by the saints and he did Horrible for the saints his last 2 years. Still wish orgeron would have researched candidates for offensive coordinator, special teams coordinator. Can't he do his research a little bit some what before making a hire??????? And can Lsu* hire back austin Thomas? He is unemployed, he is not at Tennessee, that deal didn't go thru.

No. He is too young and much too successful. Not qualified to be a coach at LSU.

LSU continues it's new status as a destination for cast offs and misfit coaches If you're a coach with no other job prospects just give LSU a call (Aranda notwithstanding)

Terrible hire. He cannot recruit and he does not know how to properly coach special teams. Not very surprised coming from O though. There are some dark, dark times ahead .

he got lucky 1 year and people think he was some sort of genius because the "stat sheet" shows he was on the super bowl team. they didnt have good special teams that year, they were so terrible it was the main reason payton tried the onside kick because we were giving up so much return yards its wasnt all that bad of a gamble. the way people alter history in their minds to fit something on a stat sheet is amazing. the saints special teams were bad the whole time he was there and it was a ragging dumpster fire when he was finally fired. "maybe" on a college level his "average" ST coaching ability will work here but last year showed no improvement at all so im not holding my breathe on this one. taking a flier on a rant amateur high school ST coach with potential would be a better move IMHO
