Former LSU offensive lineman Saahdiq Charles made the surprising decision to retire from football this week and leave the Tennessee Titans, where he was projected to be the starter this season.

Charles played at LSU from 2017-2019 and was a starter on the 2019 National Championship team.

He was selected by the Redskins in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft and played three seasons in Washington. He signed with the Titans in March.

He & that offensive line was a key catalyst for the absurd offensives success in 2019. Sometimes you need to get out sooner rather than later. Still gets a nice retirement check. Also his body won’t be a wreck in the long run. Be healthy be happy

It probably is a wreck though with the hits he had to take to get to this point… hopefully he has a coaching job lined up somewhere to get into that career and get long term security

If he doesn’t love it enough to be a player he damn sure doesn’t love it enough to be a career coach

It’s not a good profession to be in if you don’t love it. So now he gets great memories, a championship in college, a pretty nice nest egg and his health.

Dude has enough money to live comfortably.
Now he can enjoy life.
I applaud his decision.

Only he knows how his body is truly holding up. I’d say it’s more worth it to get out early and still be in good health than to live in pain the rest of your life for a few more million dollars. He’s made enough money to be well off. Probably a smart move for him, the NFL is brutal especially for the dudes in the trenches.

He never appeared to really be having fun when he was at LSU. It must be hard to walk away from the money but if his desire isnt there then he made the right choice

I remember the guy being a penalty machine.

Was he still on his 4th rd rookie contract? After the gov steals half of that and after buying a house and car...he ain't got much $$$ left.

You have to play 3 full seasons in the NFL to be able to get any decent amount of money. Also have to wait until 55 to get it. There are some other things that can come in play but I didn't understand it. Got it from a friend who played for the Dirty Birds in ATL
