Former LSU and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Kwon Alexander was named NFL Rookie of the week on Friday. He is the first defensive player to win the award this season. Per Buccaneers.com:

“Kwon has done a great job for us in the middle of our defense this year and we are excited to see him getting recognized for his level of play,” said Buccaneers Head Coach Lovie Smith. “Defensively, we focus on making big plays and forcing takeaways, and that is exactly what Kwon did for us last week in Houston. He is getting more comfortable in his role each week and we look forward to seeing him continue to develop.”

Against Houston, Alexander recorded 10 tackles, intercepted a pass and deflected two more passes. Earlier in the week, the rookie said that the interception was the first he’s ever recorded at any level. According to Pro Football Focus, Alexander was the league’s third-best inside linebacker in pass coverage in Week 3. He’s currently the Bucs’ second-leading tackler, behind Lavonte David, with 23 tackles.

Didn't Bama not want him?

Saints drafted Anthony and Kikaha. After two early round LB's that are producing early in their career I doubt they wanted to go for another LB. It would be an argument if they took a LB that isn't producing.

Ben Davis and Wilson see that CJ Mosley was a pro bowler and made All-Pro as a rookie. Kwon is great though. The state of AL always LBers like LA has CBs and WRs.

But the Saints traded up for Al Woods... and cut him before Week 1 of his rookie year.

I tend to believe that Sean Peyton IS "smarter than the fans." That being said, the Saints have screwed up big time by not drafting some of the outstanding athletes from LSU that were available when the Saints were "on the clock."

Too bad Peyton and the Saints were so loaded with talent that they didn't need to burn a draft pick on him. Or Beckham, Landry, Hill or 36 other LSU Tigers competing against them in NFL. The Saints are doing so well that they don't need to pick any Tigers.

And yet Chavis insisted on starting Welter in the middle...

Another former Tiger at a position of need for the Saints that was passed on so Sean could continue to prove he's smarter than the fans. :banghead:
