ESPN released post-spring Top 25 power rankings on Tuesday and pegged LSU at No. 20. Here's what they had to say about the Tigers.

20. LSU Tigers

2020 record: 5-5 SEC

Projected returning starters: nine offense, nine defense, one special teams

Key losses: LB Jabril Cox, S JaCoby Stevens, WR Terrace Marshall Jr., P Zach Von Rosenberg, WR Racey McMath, TE/FB Tory Carter

Key additions: S Derrick Davis Jr., OT Garrett Dellinger, DT Maason Smith, ATH Sage Ryan, DE Bryce Langston, LB Mike Jones Jr., G Kimo Makaneole

Previous Way-Too-Early ranking: 20

Outlook: After flaming out in the defense of their national championship in 2020, the Tigers are undergoing a massive rebuild. Coach Ed Orgeron has two new coordinators -- former Carolina Panthers assistant Jake Peetz is leading the offense and former Minnesota Vikings secondary coach Daronte Jones is guiding the defense. There are three other new assistants as well, including passing game coordinator DJ Mangas, who like Peetz worked with former LSU coordinator Joe Brady.

There was a four-way battle for the starting quarterback job this spring, and Myles Brennan and Max Johnson will keep competing into preseason camp. Brennan opened 2020 as the starter, but he missed the final seven games with a torn abdominal muscle. Johnson played well as a freshman last season, and Peetz might favor his mobility.

The Tigers brought back their entire starting offensive line, although Anthony Bradford was pushing right guard Chasen Hines during the spring. It needs to perform better than it did a year ago. Marshall Jr. turned pro, along with Ja'Marr Chase, who opted out of the entire 2020 season. Tight end Arik Gilbert's availability for next season is also uncertain.

Oklahoma will have their normal choke game or 2 as always. I guess Notre Dame & Michigan head-up 6 thru 10.

Rankings are not about the best teams. OU wins Big 12 every year and gets blown out most of the time in playoffs. By SEC schools.

Man, that OU campus is lit. The team is legit this year. Rattler is going to win a Heisman this year. Texas will be overwhelmed, Steamroller, baby! Print the tee shirts!

So what you are saying is winner of LSU Alabama will win the west and play UGA in the SEC championship game, winner of that goes to the playoffs. Oklahoma will lose 1-2 random games they shouldn't and still end up winning the big 12 and making the college football playoff (where they will be blown out by the SEC team). Ohio state and Clemson will play an extremely weak regular season schedule and then play each other in the CFP where they will face the SEC west winner. As is tradition.

ULL ranked ahead of LSU at the end of last season and going into this fall.

LSU has a lot of vol with that ranking. Could make the playoffs. Could crash and burn and have to flush the entire staff.

ESPN and their FPI lost all, yes ALL credibility when the final 2019 rankings had LSU (yes the team with the greatest season in college football history) ranked third. Ahead of them were Ohio State(who got beat by Clemson) at 1, and Clemson (Who LSU beat down) at 2. Nuff said!

is that true? Because that makes zero sense. LSU had the greatest season in college football history.

As good as LSU was in 2019, Alabama's offense in 2020 is the best I have ever seen. And that was without Waddle and they had Smith for a half in the title game. We were a machine too but not quite as lethal. Many times our receivers bailed Burrow up when he scrambled and threw up a 50 yard prayer. Either way, those two teams were clearly the best in the respective years.
