With Saturday's matchup vs. Rice likely to be a lopsided contest with the Tigers being a 42-point favorite, several LSU backups could see significant snaps in the game.

The matchup will also give the coaching staff an opportunity to shore up some things on offense and defense along with trying out some new plays.

Head coach Ed Orgeron met with the media after practice on Thursday and was asked what the backfield could look like vs. Owls and said there could be a surprise for a Saturday night...
quote:

"Well, we're going to start off with Nick (Brossette) and Clyde (Edwards-Helaire)," Orgeron said. "And we may have a little surprise."
Orgeron has already revealed that freshman running back Chris Curry is likely done for the season as he has already played in four games this season and they would like to redshirt him.

Freshman running back Tae Provens could see action as he has only played in one game this season vs. Southeastern.

Orgeron also added that he would like to see backup quarterback Myles Brennan and the younger wide receivers and defensive linemen play Saturday.

I suspect this is the surprise.

I'd like to see it with White at QB running a dive out of the gun with 9 OL and a FB/H-back on the field. Run it the first time near the goalline (so Devin can score), and the second time on the first play after a punt to see how many yards he can gain on one carry.

Maybe after that let him take a couple handoffs from Burrow.

He was promised the opportunity during his recruitment. If he wants to run the ball as I've read he has stated he has, he has more than earned it by coming to LSU and being the heart of the defense for 2 years and a solid contributor for 3.

Hoping for Jacory Washington. 5 years, one reception. Graduated, didn’t transfer to McNeese.

If Devin White got 5 or 6 carries, the LSU Scoreboard would crash from the number of WTF!!! posts.

I honestly believe he would be that good as a running back.

So CEO said he would like to see Brosette hit the 1k yd mark... so I hope Nick gets about 150 the first half.

I'd actually like to see Stevens back there. I thinks around 220 now and 6 ft. Jimbo did this years ago in his National championship season, when 5 star safety Karlos Williams (6'1 220) played RB in his 3rd year. Averaged 8 yards a carry with over 700 yards and 11 TDs.
