Ed Orgeron spoke to the media on Monday and was asked about quarterback Max Johnson and whether or not he could start vs. Florida this Saturday.

Orgeron said that Johnson played his best game of the season vs. Alabama last weekend and they will give some consideration this week for him starting vs. the Gators.

Johnson, a freshman from Watkinsville, GA, has not started a game for the Tigers this season but has appeared in four games, completing 40 of 63 passes for 395 yards and two touchdowns. He also has 22 carries for 22 yards on the season.

Q. Is there any advantage to getting Max Johnson a start in a game, knowing he's going to be the full-time starter in a week?

ED ORGERON: Yeah, I think that's something we're going to give consideration to this week, look at it. I thought Max played really well. I thought also TJ did some things. That's something we're going to give consideration for this week.

Damage control to keep him from entering the portal. He can't afford to not give him a couple starts to close out the season.

Max is further along in development for sure. TJ has the physical abilities but his football IQ is low at times

Yep, like about 80% of the time.

Can he start some different receivers instead? Drop after drop in the first half

The way I've seen them play, Johnson is way better when the defense puts pressure on the QB. He gets rid of the ball fast, where Finley gets happy feet and holds the ball way too long. If we had the luxury of time the way Bama gives their QB, Finley would probably be better, but we're not there at all.

Finley cannot throw anything but a long ball. He cannot hit a receiver in stride and is late and very inaccurate

Why is it that max will be the full time starter in a week?

That’s what I’m scratching my head over.

That was an odd statement.

That was from the interviewer and I think was meant to ask how much more prepared Max would be if he had a full week of knowing he was the starter.

Seems like a no brainer to me. What is there to consider?
