LSU head coach Ed Orgeron met with the media at SEC Media Days on Monday in Hoover, AL and said that star pass rusher Arden Key will not be ready for the start of fall camp as he recovers from shoulder surgery.

Oregon added that he is unsure if Key will be ready for LSU's season opener against BYU.

Yep. CEO made a special trip to tell him that he's not being recruited to ride the bench. He is recruiting him to play immediately!

The real story behind Arden Key's absence. Weeks before the start of the spring practice, Arden Key contacted Coach O and informed him of his decisiom to sit out his junior season and enter the NFL draft next year. Upon hearing this, Coach O was "dumb founded" and asked Arden Key to take time off and think about this decision. After about 2 weeks of not hearing from Key Coach O panicked and put the full "court" press of getting Key to rejoin the team. After feeling like he was abandoning his "brothers" ,key decided to rejoin the team. A few weeks later Key through another "surprise" at Coach O. " By they way Im having shoulder surgery Coach". Don't get your hopes up for Key playing for LSU! It's not happening!!!

If Coach O knew that he needed shoulder surgery, WHY did he allow him to walk away for months? Seems like the football/student has dictated to the coach how things are gonna be...oh yeah it is 2017.

Next man up! Aranda will build a new superstar. Speedy recovery wishes to Key. Although I know several people that have had shoulder surgeries, and they are a bitch to rehab. And none of them are athletes! Maybe Arden can push through and be ready for SEC play!

Getting this surgery so late is a head scratcher.

I fear this is another LF situation where he'll get back on the field early but something will just seem off and it'll be a guessing game all season. Regardless, I trust Dave Aranda to know how to fill the gap. With or without him, the tiger D will be ready.

why this surgery occurred as late as it did is as baffling as the inauspicious absence. oh well, none of our business I suppose. Hope he's ready asap

IMO, the inauspicious absence is the reason for the late surgery. "If" Key wasn't coming back, I doubt LSU was picking up the tab on the surgery. So, once it was determined that Key was indeed coming back, the surgery was scheduled. On a side note, I could be completely wrong, but this certainly "looks" like what happened.

@MardisGrasTexan - good theory. If that's the case, I am surprised these athletes dont have some workers comp type agreement that an injury sustained on the Tigers behalf is fully covered by them regardless of academic standing.
