LSU assistant head coach, running back coach and recruiting coordinator Tommie Robinson is reportedly interviewing with South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp, who is looking for a replacement for running backs coach Thomas Brown.

Head coach Ed Orgeron was on 104.5 ESPN's "Off the Bench" Tuesday morning and said that he has a plan if Robinson leaves the staff.
quote:

"We have a plan," Orgeron said. "We wish Tommie the best. And if that does happen I have a guy I will immediately replace him with and I think the fans are going to be very happy."
Robinson joined LSU's staff in 2017, signing a three-year contract worth $600,000 per year. That contract expires on March 31.

Many people believe that Orgeron's quick replacement could be former LSU great Kevin Faulk who is currently the Tigers Director of Player Development.

It sounds like Tommie has been encouraged to look around because his contract expires in about 6 weeks and Coach O is already letting it be known publicly that he is prepared. Also why a lateral move to USCe? If it was money and LSU wanted to keep Robinson money would not be a problem.

It’s not a lateral move in his mind. He may put all of his eggs in this basket hoping they cut Muschamp loose mid season and he hoping Tanner will make him Interim, maybe even hire him as HC at the end of the season.

Losing a RB coach isn't that big a deal, although a recruiting coordinator and a guy of Tommie's caliber is hard to replace. I hope he stays and they renew his agreement, but my question is why would Tommie move to USC for what appears to be a lateral move? I'm sure I'm missing something.

I hope it's better than his plan to replace Joe Brady with a washed up NFL coach.

Anyone who followed Kevin Faulk’s career knows that he was/is beloved and highly respected in the state of LA, which pays huge dividends in recruiting. He has one of the most storied NCAA and NFL careers and was a master at his craft. He’s worked under Coach O the last 2 years and played and learned for 13 years under the greatest NFL coach in history.
