LSU Reporter Emily Dixon recently caught up with running back Derrius Guice this week and asked him what it was like when Danny Etling went into the game last Saturday.

When did you find out that Danny Etling would be going into the game as quarterback?
quote:

"After the last drive that Brandon (Harris) was in, we were on the sideline going over what happened and Danny just comes up to everyone and says 'hey guys let's go, I'm in the game now. Let's pick it up.'

"I was just shocked, it caught me off guard. I'm glad he was able to do what he had to do to get us the win."

How did he handle that huddle, the first time for him going in, inside Tiger Stadium?
quote:

"You can tell when Danny is nervous. You can just look in his eyes, he knew he had to make a difference."

"The first thing I told him was 'just focus, we got your back. Let's just move the ball, get first downs and lets score.' And he did a great job of doing that."

We're incredibly lucky to have Leonard and now Guice. A lot of kids are good ball players but these guys are great ball players and better people.

He was giving fist bumps and high-5s along the sidelines befire he went in. I bet it was more adrenaline rush than nervousness. Hell, look at the 1st pass he threw.

I remember when Matt Maulk had to come in for an injured Rohan Davey in the SEC championship game. He looked like he was about to get his first piece at a ho house but he turned that nervous energy into a championship.

Thank God Danny was able to play last week. SEC time now boy!! This ain't tha Big 10 no more son. Strap it up and lead us to the SEC Championship. All you gotta do is keep 8 and 9 guys out the box and LF7 will do the rest.

Being a little nervous is a good thing. Most athletes, entertainers, and public speakers are able to use those nerves in a positive way to improve their performance.
