LSU junior cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. announced his decision to enter the 2022 NFL Draft with a post in The Players' Tribune.

Stingley Jr, a native of Baton Rouge, La. started in every game during his true freshman season when LSU won the National Championship in 2019. He missed several games the following two season's due to injuries.
quote:

Growing up as a kid in Baton Rouge, just a few miles from LSU, I always dreamed of playing for the Tigers. Hearing the fans in Death Valley, getting to have my friends and family watch me in the stands while I wore the purple and gold. It’s something I had always envisioned … and the reality was better than anything I could’ve imagined.

I still remember that first Tiger Walk during my freshman year. I’ll never forget, it was my first spring game and I was so excited to finally get to walk that legendary route to the stadium. It was like slow motion, being with the team and seeing all the fans there. It was amazing. I soaked up every minute of it. Read more.

He's an amazing talent, but I wouldn't have him on my draft board unless I was a team already doing good. He had an undisclosed problem before Miss St, was hurt off and on that season, came back and was hurt off and on until he called it in early in his 3rd season. If you can't make 4 games in a row without having some kind of injury or sickness problem, there is no point in a team trying to rebuild, drafting you. Just like with Christian McCaffrey, amazing player, but is always hurt.

More talent than heart, but he needed to protect his health for NFL$$$$ Can't say many would have done differently.

I bet all that 2019 success when he was a true freshman spoiled college ball for him. He reached the peak so early everything after that was a letdown. Probably felt left behind by all those 2019 teammates who are in the NFL.

Dude underperformed big time at LSU. Interesting to see if his small fragile body will hold up in NFL .

Truth be told, Devonta from Amite burned him every time they matched up. Both will have good careers in NFL but Devonta > Derek (no question)

How come you don’t see players at Alabama, UGA, A&M, Ohio State, Clemson, or damn near anywhere but LSU opting out for two years while on scholarship and taking up a Roster spot? Ricks sat out at LSU in 2021 and transferred to Bama. I wonder if he is going to sit out because it is “in his best interest” to not get hurt while he is in Tuscaloosa? I wonder if that would be looked at the same way some of you idiots look at it as being ok at LSU? I wonder if Saban or Dabo or Kirby Smart would allow the players to run amok in their program as they have at LSU? I bet not.

He's certainly better than Donte Jackson. I'm disappointed he was hurt for a large part of his LSU career, and he wasn't all that productive as a punt returner. One of the highest recruits we've ever had. He's an early pick for sure and thanks for 2019 contribution.

Guys come to LSU to get to the pros. If guys couldnt go pro after 3 years we wouldnt be one of the top progams in the nation. It helps us in recruiting and a kid gets to live out his dream, its a win win scenrio.

To all the “fans” that have something sarcastic to say… y’all will be the same fans praising him if he succeeds in the nfl. Never fails. Best of luck! Wish we had more memories but grateful for the 2019 season.

This isn't a big deal. The young man has rarely played since 2019 anyway.

What a surprise! I would look for a very good team to draft this injury prone player in the 2nd to 3rd round perhaps.

I expected this and he has a good shot at success, based upon his limited appearances. Still, he never showed grit so there may be an issue upcoming for him
