LSU quarterback Danny Etling was named SEC Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the League on Wednesday. Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

Etling joins offensive lineman Rudy Niswanger as the only LSU players to be named the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year in the 15-year history of the award.

Etling, a 2017 LSU graduate, is the Vice-Chair of the SEC Football Leadership Council and the Tigers’ nominee for the 2017 NABC Good Works Team. The Terre Haute, Indiana, native totaled a 3.74 GPA in mass communication and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team in both 2016 and 2017.

A leader in the community, Etling achieved Eagle Scout status as part of his commitment to the Boy Scouts of America. Etling owns a 16-6 record as the Tigers’ starting quarterback and his 22 career starts are the fourth-most in school history. Etling has passed for more than 4,000 yards at LSU for 10th on the school’s career list.

Danny has always shown toughness and grit on the field even though he isn’t a superstar. I feel JD Moore also needs mentioning here with a 3.9 in architecture. Pretty impressive for both of them.

The interesting stats are he’s 4th all time in starts and 10th all time in passing yards. Great job. No doubt, Danny Etling will be a success in life. He has repped LSU well and will continue to. Glad he came to LSU.

I really like this guy. He does all the right things on and off the field. What a mentor he could be to incoming freshman if O could find a spot for him. Regardless, he’s a winner and will be successful in any field he chooses. I’m also glad to see all the positive responses from Tiger fans! A classy bunch!

Got to meet him last year at Disney World during Citrus Bowl week. He took a few pics with my kids, but refused to do so without his linemen. Respectable young man.
