Brian Kelly Defends Major Burns, Says He 'Trusted Blake Baker's Teaching' In Ole Miss Game

Brian Kelly spoke with reporters this week and said that Major Burns' success in the Ole Miss last week was a result of 'trusting the teaching' of defensive coordinator Blake Baker.
quote:Burns finished the Ole Miss game with seven tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, and one forced fumble.
"This all comes down to trusting the teaching," Kelly said. "I'll give you an example: Major Burns is the easy pinata out there; everyone likes to take a shot at him. Major is playing a position that requires a lot of run fits that Harold Perkins had. He's really playing in a role where he has to run fit and you have to trust that teaching. It was probably the first time that Major just trusted it.
"The success that he had was because he believes what he is told to do is going to affect the outcome of the play. He trusted it and probably had his best game because of it."
"Now, the kid (Ole Miss WR Tre Harris) makes a great catch. Those things happen, and we move on to the next play. But Major is a great example of trusting the teaching, and he's had great success because of it."
