Brian Kelly Comments On Trey Holly's Status With Team After Recent Court Developments

While speaking with media after practice on Thursday, head coach Brian Kelly was asked if he expects suspended RB Trey Holly to return to the team at any point this season.

Holly is currently serving an indefinite suspension after he was arrested in connection with a February 9th shooting that left two people injured.

His ongoing legal battle took a turn this week when the prosecution presented new evidence against him, and now his next court date is set for December 18.

Kelly said they have been following Holly's situation but there is nothing they can do until the matter is handled through courts.

"This is a matter that needs to be handled through the courts," Kelly said. "Once it's cleared through the courts, then we can make a decision on his status. We have been pretty clear that he can't play football here until the legal matter is settled."

Holly, a former four-star prospect from Union Parish, rushed for 110 yards and one touchdown during his true freshman season last year.

Really hate this. From all I have heard he was with a friend that pulled a gun and fired it at some people he was having a problem with. The “new” evidence presented was not new and didn’t directly involve Holly.
I don’t want to minimize a serious incident but I think Holly’s involvement was more of being with the wrong group of people. I’ve seen nothing saying Holly had a weapon or used one.

Obviously we have to wait until everything is settled in the court of law but this young man is definitely backed onto a corner.

What does that mean? He’s an adult who apparently involved himself in a violent felony. DAs don’t fabricate evidence. He deserves his day in court but I stop short of saying he’s “in a corner.” He made his decision and now he must face the consequences.
