Five Recruits To Pay Attention To From Now Until National Signing Day

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports
LSU had a successful Early Signing Period and signed a total of 19 players this week. The class currently ranks No. 4 in the country but there is still room for the Tigers to improve before National Signing Day in February.
Only two commits, four-star cornerback Maurice Hampton and four-star offensive lineman Ray Parker chose not to sign with LSU this week and will wait until February. Their final decisions will determine how many spots LSU will have left to fill (likely 4-6 spots).
Head coach Ed Orgeron said this week that he will focus on defensive linemen to fill out those remaining spots.
While recruiting is always changing around this time of year, here are five names to pay attention to between now and National Signing Day.
At the top of LSU's big board is uncommitted five-star defensive tackle Ishmael Sopsher from Amite, LA who will likely end up at either LSU or Alabama. Sopsher is rated the No. 1 defensive tackle in the country and has a strong desire to play alongside his older brother Rodney in College. Rodney spent last season playing at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa and holds an LSU offer.
Four-star strong-side defensive ends Nathan Pickering (Mississippi State commit) from Seminary, MS and Bryon Young (Alabama commit) from Laurel, MS are two more names to pay attention to as both players chose not to sign this week and will wait until February.
In the secondary, LSU is currently in the mix for uncommitted three-star cornerback Jay Ward from Moultrie, GA. Ward was a one-time Kentucky commit but reopened his recruitment shortly after a visit to LSU.
While defensive players are a priority for the Tigers, four-star wide receiver Devonta Lee from Amite, LA is a major target the coaching staff would like to secure in this class. Lee is an elite athlete that hold offers from most SEC schools. LSU has been one of his top schools since early on in his recruitment.
