Many basketball scouts gave LSU freshman Ben Simmons high praise for his skills at the Nike Basketball Academy in Santa Monica, California this week, but it was ESPN's Jay Bilas who seemed to me the most impressed by his play.

And he wasn't shy about it either...

Bilas even went on to answer questions about Simmons on Twitter...

It's too bad he and Fournette didn't get here the same year.

People expecting another Pistol Pete or Chris Jackson need to realize that he is a lot different ball player. He is not, at least not now, primarily a jump shooter who will score tons of points. He is a big man that handles the ball like a guard and makes his teammates better by collapsing the defense on drives. There is virtually no one who can handle him one on one and he will be double teamed every game.

College basketball is about talent. When a player crosses a defender up and then takes off from and dunks over a guy the other coach isn't saying, "why didn't I think of that play?" Next year lsu will have 2 really talented players.

It's going to be nice seeing a player of his caliber playing in Baton Rouge. I just hope Johnny Jones does something with him and all the good players coming in. Its rare that LSU has this much hype for basketball. People seem a bit more excited about that than football.
