The Advocate is reporting that former LSU left-handed pitcher Jake Latz is transferring to Kent State.

Coach Paul Mainieri had previously confirmed that Latz would be leaving the program back in June, but it was unclear at the time as to where he would continue his baseball career.
quote:

The 2014 Illinois Pitcher of the Year who elected in June to transfer from LSU after two anticipated but injury-plagued seasons will finish his career at Kent State, he confirmed to The Advocate on Monday.

Due to NCAA transfer rules, Latz will sit out this season because he transferred to another Division I college. Latz would be immediately eligible had he chosen to play at a junior college.

This is so bizarre to me. Is he injured again? If not, why not play JUCO for a year and get drafted?

Since his arm injury he has received bad advice- should have had TJ surgery from the start! Now this move? Defies explanation... I wonder if he will ever reach his potential.

He basically said Mainieri is an a-hole.

No reason to bash the kid; best of luck to him and let's all move on from the Latz LSU saga

Not a bad move ..having coached at Kent St I can honestly say that Mike BirkBeck (pitching coach) is the top pitching Coach in all of the Northeast..hands down. He and the program has churned out first round talent type arms consistently and has several big league players to their credit ... Latz is from the area (Illinois) and was heavily recruited and these things no doubt factored into his decision.. As a former Tiger myself I hate to see players leaving the program that I love ..this certainly NEVER happened in my day and age ....but ..I know this kid is going to one hell of a coach
