LSU head coach Paul Mainieri released the following statement on Monday regarding junior outfielder Greg Deichmann who was struck in the face by a pitch during last Friday's scrimmage.

Deichmann underwent surgery on Sunday morning to repair his fractured right cheekbone and his status for Friday's season opener will not be known until this Thursday.

Why issue an update if you have no update? Anyway, I know Greg is tough and will get back ASAP! Remember Kramer Robertson last year got busted in the mouth twice and never missed a beat! I'm sure he's already let Greg know that! Lol ??

Won't be a big-big deal if he can't go, but I imagine Greg will just throw a check protector on his helmet and go with it.
