University of Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon told the U of M online magazine michigantoday.umich.edu that the university might not be mascotless forever.
quote:

"We're interested in doing a mascot but it has to be something that fans love, that children love and everyone can embrace," Brandon said. "So far, we haven't figured out a way to do it. Until we come up with something we love, we don't have a mascot.

"I'm struck by the fact that when opposing teams come to our stadium, and they bring a mascot, all of our young fans are lined up to see if they can get a picture taken with it, whether it's the Penn State Nittany Lion or Sparty. That's a little annoying to me. You can't get your picture taken with a Block M. Mascots are really embraced by the youth demographic, and we want to take advantage of that, for all the reasons that are obvious.

"Our history and our tradition is great for those of us who were there to experience it, or remember it. But there's a generation coming up, and you've got to connect with them and keep them excited."
Just a thought here, but how about you fix your football program and have that represent your school to younger generations? Again, just a thought.

Any suggestions of what that new mascot should be?

paint him blue, change that N to an M (as in Mancy), and you're good to go

A badger, yes, but with a little makeup, he could pass for a wolverine.

Ask Marvel Comics if you can use "Wolverine" as their new mascot.

Duly noted...I guess when your football team is mediocre, you aren't allowed to do ANYTHING else to possibly improve the gameday experience.

I actually admire that quote, because so many other ADs would act like they are above it.

I never realized Michigan didn't have a mascot that walked around. When I 1st read the title I thought he meant change from the "Wolverine" as Michigan's team name.

Why? For saying that they should either get a dude in a suit running around on the sidelines or have a Mustelide running around biting people?
