SEC Announces Punishment For Arkansas’ Court Storm

This policy states “access to competition areas shall be limited to participating student-athletes, coaches, officials, support personnel and properly-credentialed individuals at all times. For the safety of participants and spectators alike, at no time before, during or after a contest shall spectators be permitted to enter the competition area. It seems stupid but the fans rushed the court with opposing players still on it. It’s an accident waiting to happen. What if the #1 pick in the draft gets his foot stepped on and broken in the melee? I don’t think any student would do anything on purpose but accidents happen.

You know they might have a harder time enforcing it now, but 30 years or so ago when Florida decided to put a stop to it, they lined the field with canine units and nobody stormed the field. Cops probably wouldn't do that now.

Not taking a position on whether it should be enforced, but you could easily create a deterrent that would prevent it from happening. 1) Announce during a timeout in the last quarter that photos will be taken of the court if is stormed. 2) Tell them it will be compared to the students who are at the game to easily identify those who were on the court. When I was in school, you ran your ticket through your ID card so they have a record if you were there. 3) Insert punishment you think will deter most students from storming the clock. It's possible. Doubt they would do it but they can enforce it.

Money well spent, too. The fans are having a blast celebrating with the players. Those are the kind of moments fans and players will never forget. Hell, the Barn player will never forget Devo teabagging him to end a national broadcast!

Where does that $250K go? Pure theft by the league against one of the members that pays its way.

Not sure it qualifies as "theft" if the schools all elected the person who created the rule.
