On Tuesday, Alabama announced that it will move it's 2026 matchup against USF to the 2032 season and play East Carolina next season instead.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama announced adjustments to its future football schedules on Tuesday morning.

The Crimson Tide and USF mutually agreed to move their previously scheduled 2026 matchup to the 2032 season. Alabama will replace the USF contest with Chattanooga and as was previously announced, added a game against East Carolina for the '26 campaign.

Additionally, the Tide will host Marshall as part of the 2027 schedule.
The adjustment sparked a response from Kirk Herbstreit, who said more of this coming in College Football due to the 12-team playoff selection process.

Get ready to see this happen all over the sport. If it’s only about how many wins ya have and not who you’re playing and where you’re playing you’re gonna see every AD make these same moves. Kiss meaningful non conference games in late August and early September goodbye. Cupcakes moving forward till teams get to conference play.

He's right. Think of all the money Texas is missing out on because they wanted to play OSU. If we'd played samford we'd be in the playoffs with a big payout for participating in it. Money drives college football. Scheduling cupcakes gives you a better chance to be in the playoffs. It's a no brainer.

It's the committees fault. They rank teams based only on how many losses you have, regardless of what they say. Why schedule to play at Ohio State when you can schedule New Mexico and it's viewed the same at the end of the year?

They rank teams to maximize the number of viewers of the CFP. Meaning: minimizing the number of SEC teams. Their reasoning will change as SEC teams adjust their schedules and they’ll go back to preaching strength of schedule.

Need to bring back the computer rankings and get rid of the committee which uses whatever rationale they want to get whoever they want in the playoffs

Don't blame them. Hope Aggies do same thing. CFP Committee created this situation.

Texas is right…….if they didn’t play OSU to start they would be in playoffs. BUT WITH 9 SEC games plus 1 power 4 game starting next year the SEC will be more brutal with more 9-3 teams.

I mean the conference schedule is hard enough and you’ll see these other big teams in the playoffs so who gives a shite? Why are we even talking about this?

You can not blame the SEC teams at all. It is not a powder puff conference. SEC teams are bigger, faster, stronger and need rest when available. Can you imagine Georgia in the ACC, Alabama in the Big 10, and LSU in the Big 12?

What a CFP that would be!!

The NCAA ruined college football so we are left with this shite product.

They need to make immediate changes to the methodology to prevent this. Big OOC games are good for tv and the sport in general. You can't just put teams into tiers based on the number of losses and THEN use metrics to separate them. That's ridiculous. You can pretty easily come up with a formula that factors in SOS equally with W/L record. Now just playing a tough schedule shouldn't put you in, but it may should put your 3 loss P4 team in over another 2 loss P4 team that played a weak schedule. Right now they have the two in completely separate tiers based only on number of losses. The cfp doesn't need to expand, it just needs to be better. 12 teams is plenty.
