NHL may be a stretch to say majority and MLB as well, but Id be willing to bet that the majority of the NBA guys cant squat 300 lbs.

people at globo gyms dont know how to squat. He is clearly talking about a crossfit gym. there are at least 15-20 guys at my gym that can hit 300.

I'm pretty scrawny and have only been lifting for a little over a year, and my last squat workout was sets of 5 at 275.

That said, I was at a big box gym for a year and only once saw anybody squat 3 plates.

I think most healthy males could squat 300 lbs with a bit of dedicated progressive training, but most people won't dedicate themselves and I would bet most people don't really want to walk out with 315 lbs on their back anyway.

Combined I got that.

this. That really isn't much especially if you're including a deadlift....move the deadlift to powerclean, then you're talking about a challenge

That is ridiculous dude I would bet my life savings that easily over 50% of NBA players can squat 300+ I can't even believe this is a discussion.

I'm not lying when I say I've probably seen more people benching 315 than squatting it. People just don't squat that much. They should, but they don't

That depends on your definition of what's a squat bc we know them half repers who claim to squat 315+ but really can't.

The average NHLer is like 6'2" 210 with legs like tree trunks and most MLBers are training year round. I think you would be hard pressed to find guys who couldn't squat 300

I'd say more than 50% of NBA guys can this day and age on the bases that I know a college S&C coach and their Bball guys do work. Assuming most have at least 1 year in a college program leads me to believe some can hit 300

I mean a real squat.
300 lb real squat is not that big a number. I'm not saying it's not a lot of weight for someone who has never thought about powerlifting. Just that I can tell from my half assed training experience that it's not that hard to achieve.

Most of those guys got by on talent alone. Most are over 6'5" which is a horrible frame to squat on to begin with, and Id be willing to bet that the majority don't even compound lift. Im sure they do explosive exercises and plyo and tons of running and jumping, but I doubt they are deadlifting and squatting. Lebron James, obviously yes, but you think Kevin Durant has ever had 300 lbs on his back? I seriously doubt that. Not every pro athlete is a lifter, much in the same way that not every lifter is athletic.

I mean, here's Verlander who is half squatting 325 with shitty form and I would have thought he would have been one of the stronger guys in the game considering how big his legs are and his velocity.
LINK

Heres Matt Kemp squatting 165 with chains. Id be willing to bet that the majority don't go heavy to avoid injury. To get to 300, you have to practice and squat regularly for most people.

Heres Miguel Cabrera quarter squatting 405 looking like he's never done it before and getting excited about it.

These guys don't really lift in the big three.

I think I read somewhere that Steph Curry deadlifts 400.

It wouldn't surprise me if the re emphasis on compound lifts has made big inroads in the NBA. With training and nutrition those dudes are definitely capable of squatting decent numbers even with wiry frames.

so I'm guessing anyone squating over 300 lbs should be able to dunk a basketball?

Probably using a trap bar, still a good number for someone his size

Durant couldn't bench 185 at the combine 2007

There is a YouTube video of him benching 315 and its from 2010

Assuming he does more than bench, I bet he can squat 300
