Below parallel

We are talking about having a 1 rep max squat over or at 300 lbs, right?

HAHA you apparently go to a really rare gym. I have been in plenty of gyms and honestly have seen less than 30 people who I have seen with my own eyes put over 300 on the bar and do a true squat.

Its rare as shite in non powerlifting gyms. extremely rare.

Not looking for a pissing match, but probably 75% of my gym can get 315 for 1 rep. We aren't even talking a parallel squat, I'm talking below parallel

I move a lot for work so I've been members of a ton of gyms the last 10 years. From my experience I can tell you that outside your OLY-specific or power lifting-only gyms, that figure is absurdly high. I'm currently at a 24 Hour Fitness, and there's not a chance in hell our percentage is over 15% for past parallel of 315.

The whole concept behind this thread is dumb. If I go to the gym and do 5 sets of 10 135lb. deadlifts, which I'm sure everyone in this thread can do, I have lifted over 6K lbs. So what? I do one rep of 334lbs. in squat, dl, and bench each, so what? That makes you Hercules?

1. You said 315
2. 300 lbs still is too heavy for damn near anyone who hasn't really lifted unless you're some genetic freak.

people at globo gyms dont know how to squat. He is clearly talking about a crossfit gym. there are at least 15-20 guys at my gym that can hit 300.

Especially squats of all things. People rarely have a natural abundance of lower body power and lots of flexibility.

In a competition you just can't lift it off and bounce it off your chest.

The only time I've at a gym where everyone was pushing crazy weight was in the desert.

No, people keep changing the goal posts

I originally said I've seen people walk in the gym and squat 315 without never squatting before. I put the percentage as small but I've seen it done

Then the guy was talking about people at his gym as a whole who can squat 300.

My numbers could be off. I didn't realize 300 was looked at as a spectacular benchmark for a squat.

Thats like being in jail though, so its completely believable

I was 190 before my first deployment. I came home at 220, looking like I was ready for the combine.

It's not. I have chicken legs and wasn't far from it. Never tried a 1 rep max and maybe could have squeezed it out. There were definitely people doing it, just not as regularly as you stated and certainly not anyone who "hasn't ever lifted" walking in to do it.

I haven't lifted in several months, but still go to 24 hour fitness gyms all around Houston to swim and use the tread mill and it's pretty much the same everywhere. Some are more "lifting" gyms, and some are more "soccer mom jazzercise type" locations, but across the board, it's not too often people are squatting big numbers.

The majority of the NBA, MLB, and NHL probably can't squat 300 lbs. It's a lot of weight.
