so i bit the bullet and overhauled EVERYTHING. RAID1 ZFS SSD Proxmox architecture on my 3620, VMs and LXCs galore..just a damn christmas tree of severs and fun.

it went ridiculously smooth and i highly recommend it to anyone; with of course the usual ONE exception.

Msft refuses to activate/authenticate my Win10 VM because the key is embedded in the Dell FIRMWARE so its invalid for the VM..even though it could absolutely look it up in the Firmware (because i can run a ps script and see it myself while i'm in the win vm) so this is just microsoft being a little bitch as usual.

FU microsft. its a shitty eol win 10 and i dont even want to use it in the first place except for a few tools and the office 2021 i purchased.

they say my only option is a $200 license for something i already own. frick. THAT.

i'm looking on ebay at $20 win 10 pro keys; anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on other paths here?

y is microsoft the way they r?

What’s with you and Windows? You’re running a full hypervisor setup just to keep Windows? Stop doing that. Just leave it. Whatever tools you’re trying to run probably work better on Linux anyway. Ditch PVE and install Trixie. Stop worrying about the OS and all that and just start running services. ZFS is a TON of overhead for home use, especially surveillance and media.

i wanted failover for Proxmox; i'm provisioning 2 environments and yes, windows 10 is a comfort thing but not in the critical path moving forward. for now its access to:
- office 2021
- notepad++ (my fav app of all time)
- brave browser & bookmarks
- signal desktop app
- testing work-related stuff; a 'non work' machine to simulate our customer base experience

I currently have in proxmox these separate containers

- technitium DNS1 server
- technitium DNS2 server (technically running in docker on NAS)
- tailscale
- samba fileshare (so i can map those external usbs on windows for now)
- plex
- win 10
- HAOS
- debian desktop
- qbitorrent
- arrs

most of this replicated for my friend's setup with some tweaks. this is a 2 stage setup; right now its transitory, still relying on shitty external usb drive sourced media while waiting for proper NAS drives and then media will move to that and the usb drives become disposable, used for backups, scratch work, etc.

Should have one docker compose for plex/jelly qbittorrent dispatcharr radarr sonarr seerr prowlarr unpackeerr vodstrm. All under gluetun. Push all remote TV, VoD, torrent, and TMDB access through VPN and then expose access to those services locally and jellyfin to reverse proxy. I dont use unpackerr though.

Infra juice isn’t worth the squeeze. Things just don’t really crash now a days. Hell, my “main” home server (everything but frigate) has a “docker ps” over 5 pages long. It’s also a crappy laptop system board that I saw WAY too cheap on eBay and hacked it into a working system just to see if I could do it. core ultra 155H, 32GB ddr5x. Fan is controlled by an arduino and boot only works because another arduino keyboard emulator. Still never crashes…

Windows 10 Pro runs fine unauthenticated. If the "not genuine" watermark bothers you, google massgrave.

interesting. So no time out or "you can no longer use this" concerns? Will my ESU still work?

i see that now :/ AI lied to me. i guess it was trying to 'be politically correct' and not recommend paths that are technically working around corporation's legal nonsense.

oh well. i may just build a second Win 11 VM and move over to it and kill the Win 10 one. No rush.

Tell me a bit about what you're doing with IPTV? my old implementation was through plex and threadfin but to say that was fragile was an understatement. i would like dvr capabilities and better management of channels but also a decent client on android tv devices. So far i've hated every one i've used so i haven't considered purchasing anything yet.

but thats not a priority right now..

IPT's service, dispatcharr and Plex/Jellyfin. Have a dedicated TV Recordings library that runs on a 24 hour deletion since I get bet ter, more efficiently encoded torrent from sonarr grabs. The recording just allows us to watch live TV delayed and then skip commercials

im new to ipt.. thats only source...

xaque8787/vodstrm turns your 300k vod library into jellyfin libraries.

dispatcharr is a proxy, and a lineup organizer, you can put 10 streams on one channel and it uses them in order of preference.also watching same channel on 4 TVs counts as one stream. I also use this ffmpeg profile in dispatcharr because it makes my tv better. its also good to keep all the arrs behind gluetun except the exit ports locally. jellyfin and seerr go to reverse proxy here.

As for client, I use jellyfin on android but I have it play via VLC instead of built in player.

requires hardware acceleration but very little resources:
-err_detect ignore_err -user_agent {userAgent} -reconnect 1 -reconnect_streamed 1 -reconnect_delay_max 2 -probesize 192k -analyzeduration 192k -fflags +genpts+igndts+discardcorrupt -i {streamUrl} -init_hw_device vaapi=va:/dev/dri/renderD128 -filter_hw_device va -vf "format=nv12,hwupload=extra_hw_frames=16" -af "aresample=async=1" -c:v h264_vaapi -profile:v high -level:v 3.1 -refs 1 -bf 0 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -c:a aac -avoid_negative_ts make_zero -f mpegts pipe:1

I live dangerously. If you want to call it that. App data is backed up offline every couple weeks. If someone gets my mullvad key or ipt password I’m out $25. I’d be more mad if someone messed with my personal GitHub but not the end of the world. That’s about the blast radius other than botnet proxy or crypto mining. Maybe some nudie hot tub footage but that doesn’t bother me at all.
