Friday Night Lights - Season 4

Posted by CULionTiger on 12/5/09 at 9:47 pm
is anyone else watching this? I am LOVING Coach Taylor at East Dillon High and I predict he will do some amazing things there --

Speed is one thing, what separates Frankie from the rest is his gifted brain -- he has tremendous spatial intelligence

Not sure if y'all saw this so I'll mention it again -- on the GEE in Geography -- which is reading routes and patterns and analyzing statistics -- Frankie Jackson got 100% -- this is the Advanced level that few students at Baton Rouge High or Ben Franklin achieve --

This is the kind of detail that tells a college coach they have someone they can mold into a champion -- at the highest level, it is brains AND brawn
a philosophy is a belief -- it is what a coach wants to do in the ideal world --
maybe strategically is the better word for the situation

not having someone who can kick a field goal is a reality --

if your attendance zone is in a part of town where the number of soccer kids who can turn into great field goal kickers is close to ZERO, and you are having trouble growing one at home your strategic REALITY is that you have to run the ball and work for a better than 50% completion rate, regardless of what you would want to do as a coach with perfect resources

that said, I will smile from ear to ear if I see the CHA coach "just handing out" at the Burbank or Independence soccer fields with his eyes on next year :)
Does the memory of last night make him even MORE attractive as a recruit? It is a burst of harsh reality that leads to a much more mature player -- before that kid is playing on your dime...

"Capitol High running back Frankie Jackson had played the game of his life..." - The Advocate

"Capitol's senior running back dismantled one of the best high school defenses in the state for 240 total yards Friday night. - Shreveport Times

"Hopefully, given time, Jackson can reflect on the entire evening. It was special. In its history, Evangel has given up 200-yard rushing games about as often as Jackson fumbles; that was twice before he doubled that total Friday."

Looks like despite the fumble of his life, Jackson is in a nice position to have the Capitol High lobby full of recruiters Monday morning -- nothing like being THE story in your last game.
Yes but when you do not have a true kicker and you have a running back who does pretty well on conversions it is your only choice.

If I were the Capitol High coach, I would start scouring my attendance zone for kids who play soccer in order to create a true kicker/punter -- it seems to be the only thing that separated him from a trip to the dome this year.

Here are the stats --

Evangel 21, Capitol 20, OT

Team CHS ECA

First downs 24 6

Yards rushing 254 14

Yards passing 255 221

Passes (C-A-HI) 28-41-0 13-23-0

Punts-avg. 4-30.7 8-45.1

Fumbles-lost 3-2 1-1

Penalties-yards 9-80 5-25

Where was it -- I looked everywhere! I just kept pressing refresh on NOLA.com

Highlights showed Capitol had some slippery hands on their receivers --
I wish I could have seen it -- snow and all! Does anyone know if it was televised in North Louisiana --

It was probably a better game than most Division III games this year!

It appears the kicking game was the issue -- Capitol has their backup QB kicking -- Evangel no doubt has a specialist --
Besides Deven Dixon, the defense is young -- Fred Wilson, Dorseay Bindon, Dalvin Mullens and Kedric Parker are all juniors who are just now growing into their potential -- they know that with Broadway signing early, this is their big opportunity to be seen because this game is a recruiter's dream -- 2 hot teams and during the open season --

Plus, nothing can fire a team up than seeing the other team with greater resources get a little cocky - Evangel already has their fan trip to the dome scheduled.

Excellent is relative -- Capitol High Academy is a Recovery school that has undergone a lot of changes with many teachers leaving mid-year, two school boards, a takeover and 4 principals in 3 years -- he hung in there well while a lot of students fell apart because they could not adapt --

The only consistent things there have been the Football team and the girls' basketball team who won the state championship last year

Oh and seeing you are an SMU fan, Frankie's Coach loves June Jones' playbook and is consistently adopting his methods --

Maybe excellent is a stretch -- he is a good student -- their coach is strict about study hall and ACT class -- not sure where you are getting your reporting from but I am confident in this --
Grades are excellent and he has his ACT scores -- academically qualified and WILL NOT be a problem for any school in that arena.

He got all Basics on the GEE and 100% on the Geography section -- which involves analyzing maps and statistics -- kinda like reading a playbook!
They are playing Evangel in Shreveport in the Semis -- snow is forecast. They are bringing at least 3 fan busses.

This is the game that these guys have been preparing for since the moment they found out they had been dropped to 2A -- they know that the only way to TRULY establish themselves is to beat Evangel and then come back against Curtis in the dome next week.

He couldn't be tackled because of Left OT Corey White and Left Guard Albert Hill.

Germany knew what he was doing... first he found his QB for Capitol, then he got the 300LB light on their feet insurance policy for Broadway's Blind Side.

RB Frankie Jackson at LSU Thursday,,,

I did not know that LSU could allow their indoor facility to be used by High School teams...but Capitol High is having their practice at LSU tomorrow at 4pm...

It will be interesting to see who happens to be around the building when Jackson, Broadway and OT Corey White are getting ready for the big game against Evangel there...
