Tailor for Men's Suit - BR
Posted by ericw8036 on 12/1/25 at 12:07 pm
Looking for a tailor in BR to do some work on a couple of suits. I have someone that does normal work on shirts, pants but not sure she does jackets.
I have the same thing on one of my crape myrtles and it has spread to a couple of the smaller shrubs that surround it. Interested to see the replies for a solution.
Camp fridge not cooling adequately
Posted by ericw8036 on 5/21/25 at 4:48 pm
Have an older Kenmore fridge. Freezer is working fine and fridge is cooling but not enough. Have tried defrosting but that didn’t work. Any thoughts on what could be done besides putting on roadside?
Next to impossible to fix. We dropped Cox recently and now have Youtube TV. After many many resets/restarts my wife got it to work on one of our TV's but threw up her hands and gave up on the others. Ridiculous.

Looking to replace an 8ft wooden fence with a large rolling gate. Existing fence along with pole holding gate is not in good shape.
re: Outside hose bibs - no water - onside fine

I have a pier and beam house and have always dripped the outdoor spigots. This year I bought the freeze miser outdoor faucet protectors ( actually a knockoff brand of them) and they worked very well. They only drip when needed and shut off when water temps in the line reach 37 degrees. They were a bit expensive but they worked and I have them nowfor moving forward with the next freeze events.

What is the consensus on folks getting paid for the time off due to the snowstorm ?
re: Anyone have an update on Istrouma?

I live in the neighborhood. Have some friends who had kids working there. They have reached out to see if the kids were coming back to work. Should be opening soon.
I bought a 10x16 Graceland building in Mississippi late last year for right around $6K. Whatever you think you need, buy a little bigger. It is built well and the $6K included delivery, install and anchoring.

Looking for new AC Company in BR
Posted by ericw8036 on 6/18/24 at 12:49 pm
Had a contract with a local firm that got acquired by another larger local firm and would like to make a move. I have a fairly new unit, just looking for someone to maintain annually and service when needed. Would prefer a smaller local entity.
Nebo Slim + Have a couple of these at home and in my place in Mississippi. Rechargable via USB, super bright, compact, magnet on back. I have them attached to my fridge in both places.
I have two acres. I purchased the wireless unit and the coverage was not nearly enough to cover my property. Ended up buying the wired system, I think it is by PetSafe, and installed myself. I rented a machine from AAA rent all in Baton Rouge which dug the trench, laid down the wire and then covered. The machined didn't work quite as well as advertised but I did the whole perimeter of my yard in one morning.

They have absolutely taken over in St. Gabriel / Spanish Lake area. I see 40-50 a day in my neighborhood.
Jourdan River Launches
Posted by ericw8036 on 5/11/23 at 12:20 pm
Just bought a house in Waveland, closer to the beaches than the Jourdan River. Would like to bring the boat soon and do some riding on the River. Looking for some launching options on the river closer to I-10. Will be launching a 20 ft bass boat.
I can second the Biggz recommendation. Great folks at a fair price. Had them take down a couple of trees and prune an oak tree while they were here.
Fish en papillote. Thank me later.
Pre fab shed recommendations
Posted by ericw8036 on 9/14/22 at 9:17 am
Need to put a storage shed on a property that I bought in Mississippi. Have been looking at the pre-fab buildings from HD or Lowes. Also considering building it myself. Any of the pre-fab building better than others?
Most of the buildings that I have looked at are between 5-7K. Any idea on how much the material would cost to build a small 120-160 sf shed?

re: What’s the best kink-free hose you guys can suggest?

Black Craftsmen Premium Rubber Hose. Has been the best hose I have ever owned. I have replaced all of the other hoses at my house after using this one.
Tree Service Recommendation - Baton Rouge
Posted by ericw8036 on 4/21/22 at 12:15 pm
Looking for a recommendation on a tree service to remove a couple of trees and grind the stumps.
Talked to him at the event. Said he had some scar tissue cleaned up in his knee. Said he would be back in a week or so. Nothing serious.
