We must keep a close eye on J. Nesbitt(QB), J. Dwyer(RB), and J. Shaw(RB) on every play and know that Shaw is also a threat to throw the ball. Each play is pretty much designed to fake to one person and go to the other. If we use extra bodies to always go after these three guys and just let the others beat us on their own then I think we can slow them down enough to win.

Jaybo Shaw is our backup qb. I think you mean Roddy Jones (214 yards off 13 carries against the mutts).....and he isn't a threat to throw. We used 1 trick play this year where someone other than the qb threw the ball....it was a reverse pass from Bebe Thomas(our only real threat at WR). Shaw won't see the field unless Nesbitt gets hurt.

If I am LSU....I worry about 3/4 guys..Dwyer is the first option in the TO, so he is number 1. Numbers 2 and 3 are the weakside (motion) A-back and QB. Nesbitt has had a tenancy to pitch more and keep less later in the year..but that is probably due to more defenses wanting to force him to pitch the ball because its one of the most likely ways to force a turnover. Roddy Jones is the A-back who is used the most as a running threat, while Lucas Cox is at the other A-back and will usually be the lead blocker on plays that feature him as the strong side. Jones, Dwyer and Bebe are all serious homerun threats....a healthy Nesbitt is best when dropping back or rolling out and then taking off when dbs drop off into coverage. JN will keep on the TO, but his biggest and most clutch gains have been when he follows the b-back up the A gap and uses the B-back as a lead blocker.
I don't know what radio station you're listening to in Atlanta, but all the Tech fans I know are happy as hell to be playing LSU....literally a paper tiger this year....but definitely capable of having a big game, especially with a month to prepare.

A Tech fan who doesn't realize how talented LSU is has their damn head in the sand. 2008 may not be the year of the Tiger, but I'll be damned if I'm going to chalk it up as a W for the Jackets till I see it on the field. I think our players will be juiced to play a "damn strong football team".

To the origanal poster of this bullshite story :booboo: :doublebird: :moon:

re: Chicken Bowl face values?

i bought mine from the chic-fil-a bowl and I payed 265 per seat. I got the tickets today, and the shite says $75 at the bottom. Now granted, it comes with a pass to the coke event and the tailgate, but thats only a 70 dollar value. It comes with a voucher for 1 program among the 4 of us, 1 chic-fil-a bowl pin (worthless) and 4 beverage tickets (1 each). So in other words, with taxes and processing, I got charged about 100 bucks more per seat than I should have. I don't understand it.

seriously...why in the frick is there a mutt fan here talking shite? I mean you got your arse handed to you at home when you were preseason number 1, in other words your "best team ever"....the LSU fans have been very cool and level headed about expectations going into the chic-bowl. Maybe if the georgie fans had been more realistic, they wouldn't be on suicide watch and talking shite on another team's message board right now.

They got more balls then LSU.... no literally.

More Johnson's too

glenw based on your post GT should be a top 5 team next year!- good luck and hope you when all your games except the ones you play against LSU

No way we'd be top 5...but a lot of people are expecting top 10 if we win the bowl game. Media has started to like Paul Johsnon and since the georgie win, we're getting a lot more respect. It will be interesting to see, and even though we only lose 3 starting seniors (5 if you include 2 seniors who've been missing since the 8th game of the year), the ones we lose are all at the same position...D-line. We have a good stock of DE's with another All-American type in Derick Morgan (arguably our best D-lineman now and only a soph.) but we don't have a ton of DTs with experience for next year. Our skill positions actually add a couple of guys and one of those is Anthony Allen who is a stud tranfer from Louisville (had 275 yards rushing against Memphis a couple years ago). I'd still expect the traditional top 10's to be ahead of us, but we may sneak in there if we have a good showing in the peach.

thanks for the post GT fan, what do you know about the Superior, supposedly close to the GA dome

not a damn thing, but one of our other fans probably does.
GT is 8-2 ATS this year. Some look at that and say we're due not to cover...but most don't say that.

asain student at Tech? sounds about right.
speaking of the 2001 sec championship game...I was on the field for that game working security...and about got pelted to death with sugar cubes. Seems like the Tenn fans had orange roses and the tigs had sugar cubes. How was it that Tenn was going to the rose bowl if they won that year?

Paul Johnson doesn't use a playbook. His offense is different than most offenses in that he does not script a play and let the defense adjust...he runs plays based on the tendancies of the defense to open up a game...then he watches how the defense reacts to the initial plays he uses, and he makes adjustments from there. His offense reads the defense rather than letting the defense read the offense. I suppose all option offenses are designed that way....but we like its effectiveness so far.

I do hope you know the reason Tech is not in the SEC has mostly to do with Alabama. Dodd took us out for 3 reasons. 1. At the time, we were the best team in the SEC, we had the highest attendance (61k avg) and we were the only atlanta sports team. 2. Scholarship limitations put on the SEC. Dodd said that he wouldn't have a player committ to playing for Tech and then take away his scholarship once he got into school to get the numbers down to the requirement. He said if the player made a committment to the school, the school should return the favor. Tech had huge squads back then because of this. 3) the Holt/Graning incident...you'll hear different stories about this, so I'll let you research what it is, but in short, One of the bear's players cheap shotted one of ours, and it was drawn out in the Atlanta and Birmingham papers.

Here's the story from a book called Dodd's luck:

Bobby Dodd insisted there was no other reason he left the SEC, other than the 140 Rule. The 140 Rule stated a college program could only have 140 football and basketball players on scholarship at any one time. The teams were allowed to sign up to 45 players a year, but could not exceed the 140 Rule.

Dodd would not allow any of the football players choosing Tech to be dismissed from Tech, because they were not good players. Dodd said, “it is not the recruits fault for not making the squad, it was the coaches fault for misjudging their talents”. If a recruit came to Tech, he would stay on a football scholarship until he graduated.

Dodd would sign about 30-32 players a year to meet the guidelines, but the other schools in the SEC were offering 45 scholarships a year. Those players, not good enough to fall under the 140 Rule, had their scholarships withdrawn and sent packing before the end of each year. Dodd insisted, the recruiting of athletes by this method amounted to nothing more than a tryout for a scholarship.

Dodd thought it unfair and would not withdraw scholarships from his players. He wanted the SEC to limit the amount of scholarships to about 32 per year. This would keep the other schools from offering 45 scholarships, picking the best, and sending the rest packing.

A vote was to be taken by the presidents of the colleges on the issue, and Dodd made it clear, Tech would have to leave the SEC unless the rule was changed. Dodd said he would live with 10, 20, 30, 40, or even 50 recruits per year as long as he did not have to chase any of his players off.

The presidents were split six for Dodd’s position and six against. Bear had promised Dodd he would get his president to vote for Dodd’s position, which would have changed the rule.

When the meeting was held, Bryant did not show up and the Alabama president voted against Dodd’s position and the 140 Rule was upheld. Tech’s president immediately walked to the podium and announced Tech was withdrawing from the SEC. Bryant never told Dodd why he reneged on his promise.

Some year’s later there was a movement to get Tech back into the SEC, but the two main schools to fight it the most and keep Tech from re-entering the SEC were Georgia and Auburn.

The ACC immediately offered Tech the opportunity to join its conference, but Dodd thought Tech could not compete in basketball in the ACC. Dodd decided to try the independent route as Notre Dame, Miami, and Penn State were faring well as independents. Tech was well known as a football power at that time, so Dodd figured the independent route would be the best for Tech.

jesus H, I wasn't expecting responses this late...do you bastards not have jobs or are you just night owls? I am working nights this week for the moron that took 2 weeks off that normally covers this shift...and I've enjoyed passing the time trolling here. I am dead on serious that if you guys can give me a good place to eat cajun next time i'm in the state, I'll meet you there and pick up the tab. I haven't found a place that compares to Gumbeauxs, but the guy who runs it is a transplant and a big time LSU fan (his place is where all the katrina transplants go to watch LSU games). I don't know how y'all feel about eating cajun (kinda like I wonder if Italians give a shite about eating good italian food when they can make it almost as good themselves)....but if you want it, its awesome.

Hello from a GT fan

I am very excited to have a rematch with you guys. I think that we'll be in for a real tough game and I'm really wondering how well the extra time will prepare your defense for the option. I personally, am not a small man, and when planning a trip, I don't plan by activities, I plan by a "meal by meal" gameplan. The kind of food I like is good tasting, and atmostphere means nothing to me, so here are my suggestions for you on the meal by meal...stop by Gumbeaux's LINK if you make the trip to Atlanta. Its about 30 miles from the Dome in Douglasville, and honestly I never found any cajun better including my trips to louisiana....although I must give props to the seafood wontons at Blue Dog in Lafayette. If you want to stay in town and don't make your way out that far, the best bbq, I'd go with Dreamland LINK personally, but thats cause i am a rib guy. Upscale carnivores dream would be fogodechao LINK. Best hamburgers/hotdogs and fries are at Five Guys Burgers and Fries LINK for a "clean" version, and ofcourse the varsity LINKif you want food that taste good but sweeps through you like Paul Johnson's running backs. As far as breakfast goes...hell I don't eat breakfast, i save myself for the real meals....Italian I'd go with Scalini's or Magiano's although Scalini's is better to me LINK. JR Crickets has good wings if you're looking for that
LINK

If you're looking for any specific thing let me know and I'll try to give you a good suggestion. Seafood you're style I'd go with gumbeaux's although there is a pappadeaux LINK and its very good, with a pappasito's right next to it LINK for good upscale mexican place. Look forward to having you guys in town

I hate when someone makes a suggestion of somewhere to eat, and then doesn't give the best meal suggestion...so here are my regulars
Gumbeauxs - ponchetrain or seafood rotini (best bannana's foster ever...feeds 2 fatasses with no entree beforehand)
Dreamland - full rack, no sides but loaf bread
Fogo - tell everyone but filet man to go away
five guys - bacon cheese dog, bacon cheese burger and a regular fry (large cost more, but same size)
varsity - chili cheese dogs, onion rings, fries, frosted orange, apple pies, bacon cheese burger
scalini's - rolls are the best thing there, but the canneloni en bianca and the seafood pasta (anything with their white sauce or their rotella sauce which is a mix of white and red)
JR cricketts - however you like your wings
pappadeaux's - ponchatrain, bread pudding a must
pappacito's - special dinner for 2 (basically its fajita's but it comes with crazy stuff like lobster tails...3 different kinds of cheese dip for an app.
