re: Excellence Playa Mujeres: What Happened
Posted by eaw on 6/23/21 at 1:07 pm to Hou_Lawyer
I've been trying to get a reservation for Oct/Nov and all that seems to be available is the Jr. suite with pool/spa view. Really wanted the EC swim up suite.
I booked at Riviera since they had the room type available and now I'm nervous about that choice after reading this thread.

Is this property sprawling and spread out? I'm planning a surprise trip for my boyfriend in October (though now I'm concerned about it being rainy season) and he's recovering from pretty extensive surgery. I don't want him having to trek too far to get to the beach. I'm thinking a swim-up suite is the right room for us.

I've been dying to go! That might be the winner of we can get in.
I live in Hammond and we do love our museum!

Lunch near the Children's Museum

We're taking our littles to the Children's Museum today. Any recommendations on kid-friendly lunch spots nearby?

Yellow Bird is my favorite.
I've seen a lot of his work and it's all been very nicely done.

For breakfast/brunch, check out Yellow Bird.
Tope La is always a good option for lunch or dinner.

re: Is Domenica's pizza happy hour remotely kid friendly?

My two year old has done well at both Domenica and Pizza Domenica. She loves the pizza and I've never felt out of place being there with a child.
Paia Fish Market is a great spot. It's super convenient if you're planning to drive the Road to Hana. Also, there's a little stand on the left not long after you start the Road to Hana that has the best banana bread ever.

If any of your friends have a Silhouette Cameo or similar machine, they can do it for you. It would be made with heat transfer vinyl.

Tope La is a great suggestion. We always enjoy our meals there. A lot of people really like The Steakhouse (also downtown). If you need a breakfast spot, check out Yellow Bird. The service can be hit or miss, but I love the food (it's a small cafe).

We were there in October. The food was much better than I anticipated. There was a pretty vast selection and not just typical buffet food.
We did quite a few character meals on our trip and this one was a favorite of my two year old (she also really enjoyed Chef Mickey's, Disney Jr. @ Hollywood and Vine, and Cinderella's Royal Table at the castle).

re: Whitney Bank - ATM fraud scheme impacts 7,100 Louisiana customers
Posted by eaw on 1/26/15 at 4:54 pm to boxcarbarney
I very rarely use ATMs, but I used them twice last week (one at a Whitney location in Hammond and the other at the convention center in NOLA). I'm definitely going to be more vigilant now.
They got $500 out of my account from an ATM in Mobile Saturday. Whitney disabled my card (without letting me know) and I've filed a dispute.

I've only been once and it was for lunch in December. The mussels were fantastic. I ordered a shrimp panini (I'm pregnant and very few things are appetizing to me right now, especially meat). It was just okay. I want to go back after I get beyond the first trimester funk. Everyone i was with loved what they ordered.

Look into delayed cord clamping instead.
re: Has anyone here ever been to Maui
Posted by eaw on 10/24/14 at 9:48 am to goldennugget
Maui is great, but I prefer Kauai.
If you do go to Maui, eat at the Paia Fish Market and get banana bread from the first little roadside stand on the road to Hana.

I went 8 days over my due date before going into labor (first and only child). I ate tons of pineapple, bounced on an exercise ball, and walked many miles. My midwife ended up stripping my membranes on Friday afternoon. Labor started the next evening.
re: Having a baby, need prepare ahead meal ideas

My husband doesn't cook. He ate lots of take-out, but it didn't appeal to me. I couldn't figure out what I wanted. Typical of me...
We didn't prepare any meals ahead of time and I totally regretted it. I lived on peanut butter and Wheat Thins for several weeks. Stock up on easy-to-eat snacks with high protein for your wife.
You might also consider keeping the ingredients to make your own pizzas on hand.

How did you do it, by looking individually?
I chose the option to change only my FP+ for the day. I was able to get the other two reservations close to the same time as the rest of my group.

I was just able to get a reservation for my daughter and me, so the others can do a ride and I'll take her to meet A&E.

Huh? My FP+ booking option opened today. I tried to book last night and the system would not let me.

I used the website. I logged in at 10:30. The system told me I couldn't book until July 29. Bizarre

Did you try by using the app or the website?
The website works alot better for pre-booking FP+.

Remember you can start to book that at midnight ET, not 6 am like dining. So, if you live in La, thats 11 pm our time. I have been reading about some people seeing no availability for anna & elsa when they log on even at midnight, but I just booked mine for our September trip and had no issues.
I tried last night (from 11:00-1:00) and the system would not let me book FP+. Anna & Elsa were gone this morning. :(

At Magic Kingdom, I hope you already have FP+ for Anna & Elsa, because if you don't you're screwed. We're not able to book our FP until Aug 4, but this will be the first thing on our agenda.
Our FP+ selection window opened today. I got on later this morning than I intended (7:30). Anna & Elsa were already unavailable for the duration of our trip.

Paia Fish Market
This was honestly my favorite meal while in Maui. Actually, we ate there twice...

In Maui, try the Paia Fish Market. It's near the start of the road to Hana. They serve incredible fish tacos.
Also, because of the recommendations I read here, I tried the banana bread sold on the roadside on the road to Hana. It was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Buy extra for later.
