When the dust settles.. How do you keep both Hankton and Sloan?
Posted by Wtfdoiknow on 12/22/23 at 12:03 pm
LSU has two coaches who are relatively the best in the business - Sloan and Hankton.
Allegedly both have OC aspirations.
When all of this business shakes out and the new OC is named, how do you keep both of them?
If that is likely not a reasonable scenario, who is easier to replace?

re: Is Denbrock really leaving bc BOS didn’t finalize the contract?

Was he wanting to go home when he nearly took the A&M job?
I think LSU may need to not at least consider he was running away versus running to.

Not everywhere, man.

You have two spectacular coaches in Sloan and Hankton. Allegedly, both have OC aspirations. Kelly has his chess match laid out for him… if he promotes one, how do you keep the other?
re: For those of you that have never been to that part of Indiana

Anyone who dismisses this statement is naive - A&M and now ND and for a lateral move and arguably the same money. Stop saying it’s about going home. There is nothing that would indicate that.

100%.
Sloan, and his recruiting/development would be the bigger loss here.
Take players over scheme if you have to choose. Sloan for OC and get a new up and comer to help develop your QBs.

If Joe Sloan wants the job, you have to give him his shot. Otherwise he’s gone too.. and the QB development and recruiting that allegedly comes with him. I know he doesn’t have experience, but you have no choice.
re: How did we lose Denbrock?
Posted by Wtfdoiknow on 12/22/23 at 10:01 am to Tigerbait8
It is concerning that he first considered leaving to A&M (at least enough to justify a raise) and now is actually leaving to go to ND. I don’t know if I buy the idea that he’s just leaving to go back home.. maybe.. but why entertain two different schools for a lateral move. Unfortunately, it sounds more like running from something than to something to me. But again, wtfdoiknow.
re: LSU’s D the last three games
Posted by Wtfdoiknow on 11/4/23 at 8:27 am to lsuson
More a result of the competition we played than massive improvement. We just need Bama to self-limit tonight (drop a few crucial balls/penalty/etc) on a couple of drives and then we have to play lights-out offense. This is really our only path to victory if we are being honest with ourselves.
re: Why would Nussmeier stay through Spring?
Posted by Wtfdoiknow on 1/4/23 at 4:36 pm to moneyg
In the only game where Howard saw any action, you could tell that he was not near as developed as the other two - not that he won’t be great, but I think the whole narrative that he will be competing for the starting role next year is kinda debunked at this point.
re: Kayshon Boutte declares for NFL Draft
Posted by Wtfdoiknow on 12/29/22 at 12:31 am to SammyTiger
Exactly.. they’re has to be more to the story.
It wasn’t that he decided to declare, it was the odd way that it was announced. The vague statement about missing the bowl game, but mentioned being “enrolled in school” already felt off.
Best of luck - he lost a lot of support when he flirted with Bama the second time to leverage even more NIL money. His lack of loyalty earned our lack of loyalty. Moving on…

re: Jayden Daniels will not drastically increase his draft stock with another CFB season.

It is possible that JD plays the bowl game and depending on his performance, reevaluates his decision to go/stay based on the post-game draft prediction. (Maybe he plays himself into an earlier round…)
Meaning, his decision to play in the bowl game may not be the final indicator of whether he will be at LSU next year…and the QB room may not be set just yet.

I’m no expert, but it appears that driving to the basket without a plan and try to get fouled looks like our only move.
re: Who has the responsibility of a successful implementation of NIL at LSU?
Posted by Wtfdoiknow on 12/20/21 at 2:20 pm to boxcar willie
It seems that, in order for NIL to not be a cash tool for recruiting, you would have to aggregate all of the dollars into a single fund (maybe divided by conference) and split among all of the players/starters/etc in that conference. That’s the only way players are able to share in the wealth of college football (consistent with the espoused reason for NIL), but it isn’t a replacement for brown bags of cash.

I don’t think anyone has mentioned this yet. Is this true? If walk-Ins don’t count against your number, you could theoretically bring in a good player with an NIL deal and extend beyond the number of allowed scholarships.

Looks like tea leaves are pointing to Venables which is an interesting hire.
For those thinking it was Dabo, at $8.3M, no yearly formidable opponent in the ACC, and top recruiting classes - what does OU offer that will help him perform better and that Clemson doesn't already? I would say that everything points more to Dabo underperforming his current situation and kind of interesting that he would want out.

re: Barry Odom thoughts?
Posted by Wtfdoiknow on 12/3/21 at 11:09 am to King
You mean, Odom turned down a job to come work for a coach with one foot out the door? Shocking…
I would be careful comparing last year to this year.
LSU has proven winner with a 10-year contract and a football office with money to burn - it may have you eating those words.

re: Which coaches/coordinators stay?
Posted by Wtfdoiknow on 11/26/21 at 2:59 pm to DarthAlleva
Would think the only one(s) that are retained would be because their brand is irreplaceable regarding recruiting.
C. Raymond is the only coach that would be easily considered top 3 (nationally) in his role.
Reality is that CEO has been a lame duck since mid season last year - the quality of coordinator LSU will attract with stability at HC will improve dramatically. Hopefully, “serviceable” or “most improved” will not cut it anymore.

I’ve heard stories that a lot of that pre-shale wealth was earned by having the huge balls to wildcat oil, on his own dime.
