Robert Heinlein didn't write the Forever War that was Joe Haldeman. The premise of the Forever War dealt with the effects of time dilation from near faster than light travel. I think you are thinking of "I Will Fear No Evil" that was written by Heinlein and dealt with brain transplants.

First off earlier posters are right. Buy the largest you can afford and move. Buy rifle rods these greatly increase the number of guns that can be stored. I have two safes because I bought too small the first time. On fire ratings I wouldn't worry too much. Be sure to bolt it down. Try to put it where the side of the door that opens is against a wall (inhibits them using a pry bar to open. Consider getting it in a closet or enclosed space to hinder attacks. If you can't, consider building an enclosure around it and use cement board and drywall to increase fire resistance. If you can get it in a closet you can increase fire resistance with a layer of cement board and additional layers of type x dry wall. Each layer gives a 1 hour fire resistance. Don't put it on the 2nd story unless you absolutely have to. It will fall through as the structure burns down and will break open. Add a normal weatherstrip gasket outside the intumescent fire gasket to resist hot gases entering (the intumescent gasket won't seal until it reaches about 300 degrees F). Don't store any ammo in the safe. It will cook off in the safe and damage the firearms.
Addition - If you do build an enclosure around it you can fire proof stud wall with intumescent paint and use rockwool insulation for even higher protection.

re: There’s a New GMC Canyon AT4 Stuck on a Colorado Hiking Trail at 14,000 Feet

I have a 2023 Bronco that I took to Off Rodeo in Moab and then hit trails afterwards. I have been stuck often enough in a 4WD to know better than to go out without recovery gear. I have traction boards, shovel, tow strap, hard and soft shackles, snatch blocks, kinetic rope, tree saver straps and I carry 3 UHMWPE recovery ropes. Along with all that I have a Wyeth Scott power puller (6,000 dead lift, 12,000 lb. pull using snatch block) with me since I don't have a winch mounted yet. Offroad recoveries can be very expensive. Buying recovery gear is cheap by comparison. The Wyeth Scott is the most expensive thing I own. Costs as much as a cheap winch but I use it to pull down trees and pull my tractor out when it gets stuck, so I didn't buy it just for recovery. I would probably still carry it even if I had a winch as it allows you to pull from any angle you can get an anchor point. Using it along with a winch would make off camber pulls safer as it could be used to stabilize the vehicle.
Some thoughts
1) No matter what vehicle you drive sooner or later it will get stuck.
2) Get information on the area and trails. His first mistake was driving a vehicle on a hiking trail.
3) Don't go out without being prepared to get stuck.
4) Use good judgement. If it looks sketchy get out and walk it and plan a line.
5) Don't hesitate to turn around if it is beyond your or your vehicles capabilities.

I usually subscribe to the "It's your vehicle do what makes you happy club" but I do find it annoying for idiots in jacked up trucks or ricers with extremely loud exhaust systems that cannot resist constantly blipping the gas pedal just to make noise. I have an older F250 that I use to tow my trailer to move my tractor and materials around. Stock exhaust. We moved into our new house last year. Built on a big piece of land so I wouldn't have to deal with idiot neighbors as much. Across the street and 100 - 150 yd. up the street is the entrance to a small subdivision. There is an idiot living in there with a truck with a large lift on it (approaching monster truck height) with low profile tires (another of my pet peeves) and led lighting underneath and in the rims. I know whenever he enters and exits the subdivision. He is constantly on the throttle just making noise. It's ridiculous. If I lived in the subdivision I probably would have already snapped and put a few rounds right into the engine. Now back to the other pet peeve low profile tires on jacked up trucks, Jeeps or any other 4WD vehicle. Lifting a truck gains you ground clearance and the ability to run larger diameter tires. Both of these are beneficial offroad. Strapping low profile tires onto these vehicles turns a capable offroad vehicle into a mall crawler. Running low profile tires offroad especially if you are airing down is a sure way to damage tires and rims or break a bead loose. I know most 4WD vehicles will never see the woods, but it just annoys me. I am going to refrain from giving my opinion on the so-called Carolina squat as I think it is obvious that you should have a clear view of what's ahead of you when driving. Nuf said.

1978 Jeep Cherokee Chief S with Levi's package. An unstoppable 4WD. Had it while I was in college and used it as a daily driver and for hunting. Was a great vehicle and when I see old ones for sale now on auction sites makes me wish I had kept it. Have had a lot of 4WD vehicles but that one was the best I ever had.
re: Nilgai - have you hunted them in Texas?
Posted by LSUTVern on 6/27/22 at 8:29 pm to SenseiBuddy
Killed one 3 - 4 years ago on Kenedy ranch. Shot it with a .308 with 165gr Hornady GMX. Heard all the tough to kill stories from everyone. One shot kill. Fell over where I shot it never got up. I think the reason was everyone hunts them from vehicles but I told the guide I wanted to stalk on foot. Took three days but got a shot at 70 yd. off of shooting sticks. He never knew were there until the bullet hit him. I think shooting them from moving vehicles makes for less than ideal shot placement and you have them fired up and already on the run once you hit them so they don't go down. Just my thoughts from my single experience hunting them so take that with a grain of salt. Meat was very good. Mount came out great. Big animals. Took me and the guide and a winch to get it on the truck even after it was field dressed. Can't be absolutely certain but I think that was how I popped my 2nd bicep tendon. (First one was the result of moving a big bandsaw on a dolly after Katrina.)
Yep! And the sandworm was someone's arm and hand right?
So we must have been in the same class. Really liked that Mr.Sluggo was the tour guide and the one size fits all still suit was a ziplock bag.
Have a MAK90. Mine is a milled receiver. Is it a stamped receiver or a milled receiver? Good trigger. If it's a milled receiver and you don't want to jump through the 922r hoops just to change the stock get the choate stock have one on mine and it looks better and works great. LINK
Look up cytokine storm. The virus caused their healthy stong immune system to kill them.
The way I did it was:
1) Skin out head
2) Simmer in pot for a full 24 hours - don't boil just keep it warm. Do it outside - hotplate on patio.
3) Hose off carefully - Brain will wash right out. Watch teeth in upper jaw. If they come loose they can be super glued back in but you don't want to lose them. Be careful of sinus bones so you don't break them.
4) Bleach skull if desired just be sure to wrap up antlers.

I shoot nothing but Hornady superperformance 150gr SST's in both my Tikka T3 and Savage model 99 (both .308 WCF). Every deer shot with them is dead. Have never had any issue and terminal ballistics were very good. They haven't always gone down but they don't go far and they all left a blood trail. Last year went after Nilgai swapped to Hornady superperformance 165gr GMX's specifically for that hunt. Everybody was telling me to be ready because they are tough to put down. I was told I would need follow up shots, etc. After stalking for two days shot a bull at about 100 yards. He dropped when hit. Never got back up. Bullet went completely through him. After field dressing he weighed 380 lb. I can only tell you what my experience has been and I have never experienced any failures to fire or issues with terminal ballistics. From the bench the 150gr SST's shoot 1" groups from my Tikka.

Excellent job. Someone finally shining light on the cockroaches :geauxtigers:
My wife and I went to the game. I don't have season tickets. I was a student at LSU from 79-82. My wife was not an LSU student but was born and raised in Louisiana and enjoys the games and is proud of the university. I'm not trying to tell anyone when they can leave it is a free country BUT... I do have an opinion. It is only my opinion and I am free to express it. If you disagree fine.
1) When I was a student we stuck. Winning or losing. We were losing a lot more often then they do now. I was disappointed the student section started emptying out as early as it did.
2) We don't have season tickets. I make at least 1 game a year. I was at the MSU game and the UGA game and will be at Ole Miss also. As a result we don't always sit in the same place. We were in the Tiger Terrace on the upper West deck. IT SUCKED. People around us basicly barely watching the game no cheering, no spirit. Pitiful. Wife said if they're going to wear the colors they ought to cheer.
3) I don't leave early - my choice - I don't get to spend enough time in Tiger Stadium as I can only make certain games. I can understand people jumping early to beat traffic but not when the game is undecided. After last year especially I don't understand people starting to leave as early as they were this weekend.
There said it - flame away.

I lived in "The Rock" from 79-82. 3rd floor North Stadium right above the old Football office. Hot in the summer - yep. Cold in the winter - yep (bastards at the physical plant wouldn't turn on the steam for the radiators until you were frozen solid!). 4 guys to a room my first semester. Then I moved over one hall and stayed in the room with a friend who was the RA for that hall. Major perk - RA's had a phone in their room. Everybody else got to use the 1 phone in the hall. Game day was a blast. No way you could stay in the room during a game. Student ID got you into every home game. I worked at the snack bar in West stadium by the Laundromat for extra money. It was uncomfortable but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Football team wasn't that great but I made every home game and stayed until the end. Old habits are hard to break I guess. I was at the MSU game until the clock read zero this weekend. (This drives my wife crazy) I only get to make one or two games a year so I value every minute I spend there. Will be at the UGA game this year and maybe Ole Miss.
